man, what a fun yet stressful time.

everyone keeps telling me they have the sparkliest diamonds, but they all look the same.

my advice is to find out what kind of cut she wants. princess? emerald? oval? then figure out how much you want to spend. then go to some online place that sells diamonds. blue nile, etc. by the diamond from a place like that separate from the band. color is pretty important. don't sacrafice a whole bunch there. her friends will be able to see the color just during casual conversation. sacrafice some on the cut and then clarity if you need. buy a simple band/ring to go w/ it. she can always upgrade this later if she wants something more interesting. maybe would make a nice 5th anniversary gift! good luck.

I lucked out on this. Mrs. Jakesie's grandma had a ring that she wanted Mrs. Jakesie to wear, and Mrs. Jakesie loved it. Probably not as much as myself, who didn't have to spend any money except for on the wedding itself.

I bought my wife's engagement band at Blue Nile, and we found her wedding band locally on clearance.    Saved a ton.

If you do Blue Nile, sign up for Fatwallet Fatcash or Ebates and get several percent rebated back to you.

moshiri in olathe at 119th and black bob is pretty good.  they ask you what you want and then make it for you, pretty reasonably priced.

Don't be fooled by the marketing techniques of Big Diamond.  You should be able to get an adequate one for less than $100.00.

Also, if she has a pinterest page, she's probably got a subsection for like wedding stuff. I'm guessing that will steer you in the right direction.

Have her sit down and watch Blood Diamond.  When it's over ask if she still wants one.  You're welcome.

ask her trusted friends what she wants. she has probably been drawing pictures of her fantasy ring in her diary

If you're ordering the diamond and ring separately and want diamond inlays in the band, order the band with the inlays set. It's going to come from India where the child labor is superior at setting small stones, and also about one tenth the price of having a goldsmith set them in the store.

You going with gold or white gold for the band?

I know she wants a round stone, solitaire setting, tiffany style. so the worries of getting something she doesn't like is pretty much zero.

my only concern is feeling like I didn't get the best deal possible. but, I'm that way with pretty much everything. will check out blue nile and compare prices.

That's a good idea. I should seek out a girl with a heirloom ring to be.

If you buy from one of the large chain stores you should get the insurance.  It probably won't pay in the long run $'s wise but Mrs. Bf loves going there to have her ring cleaned for free.  They also check if the stones are getting loose and you are covered in case one falls out.

Yea, I heard the big store will clean and reset once a year.  You're probably paying a premium for that though.  Seems nice to me :dunno: I might try the raid the Grandma's ring technique.  I think I could pull that off

what an interesting time in KCFDcat's life.  first home, marriage, nachos, diamonds.  you're a very lucky man, KCFDcat.
