Very fare skinned lass.

i'd venture to guess that more of the descendants of tot vets are fairly fair-skinned, than aren't.

And their lives are the better for it, so they can stfu.

she used her ancestors strife, trail of tears, as an example of coming from mistreated group of people. If a white person wants to use their native ancestors' suffering as justification for their racist diatribes about blacks, they can stfu.

If they look white and want to complain about it like they had to overcome something in general, they can stfu.

so, if they look a little more indian it's ok?  i'm curious as who in my family can go the farthest in our racist diatribes.

and f the above is supposed to have been the racist diatribe, then i don't think you've actually seen racist diatribes.

I am saying that being or looking white has its advantages in society. Yes, I think someone that lives on a reservation and looks more like those that were on the trail of tears would have a lot more credence in speaking about personal strife of their people.

I misused diatribe. A bit too strong a word I admit.

people always exaggerate their own suffering, and appropriate the travails of others as their own.  it's human nature.

one's genetic background doesn't give one's words more import, or for that matter, excuse one's stupidity.

well said.

every time I see travail I think of this:

Quote
Through the travail of the ages
Midst the pomp and toil of war
Have I fought and strove and perished
Countless times upon this star.

Disagree.  For example, I'd take the whole "The Washington Redskins should change their name because it offends Native Americans" deal a lot more seriously if a tribe or two labeled it offensive.

Editor's note: that was only an example and I have no clue if any tribes have complained about the Redskins name, it's just that every time it comes up it always seems like only guilty white people feel bad about it

Yeah, saw that green one today on a friend's FB.  My reply was "Feels pretty good not to be compared to North Korea, Afghanistan and Iran, bro."
Did he respond to that?

Nope.  I guess I win huh.

lots of native americans and native american groups have complained about native american sports names and mascots.  regarding your larger point, i completely disagree.  if you want to discuss it, we should probably start a different thread.
