I know my priority in 2nd grade was getting as many math questions done as quickly as I could

No, his priority is getting his homework done so he can go outside and play in the hour before it gets dark, not waste his time demonstrating why he knows the correct answer. If you're worried the kid is guessing, give him three problems.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

evidently, my second grader is also smarter than some of the tards on this board. In the time it takes him to "show" his reasoning for answering such simple problems, he could just as easily solve a couple more problems.

I didn't need to show work until we got to rearranging equations in algebra and it worked just fine.

How much time does it take your second grader to show "4*10=40 and 30*1=30"?

Are you just assuming that 40 is more than 30? Please show how you know.

Of course he could solve more simple problems if he wasn't asked to show his work. But is that best for his development? Like all math concepts, showing his work now helps provide a foundation for future new methods he'll learn. The variety of methods he'll use are extremely useful and will even help the most brilliant kids.

Just because never showing your work was fine for you, that doesn't mean it was the best way for you to learn.

It almost sounds like he just doesn't know how to show his work. Instead he just complains to you and then he gets off scott free

from the heart

Quote
Friday in Paris is yet another example of the evil in this world, an evil that needs dealt with. The things governments are currently doing have not and will not work. Prayer for the victims and for peace will not work. These animals prayed right before the carried out this evil. Their God is what drove them to do this. Bombing them back into the Stone Age will not work. They live trapped in the Stone Age with their beliefs and their God. The only thing that can stop/defeat this evil is a greater evil.

They kill 1; we retaliate and kill 10. They bomb a building; we vaporize a village. They behead a Christian on video; we behead their 5 wives and 10 children on national TV. They burn a pilot on video; we burn every family member of theirs we can round up.

You fight Terror with bigger Terror. You defeat evil with greater evil.

Look at Japan; it took two bombs which killed at least 129,000 people to secure their surrender in WWII. They had killed approx 2,500 or ours so we killed 129,000 of theirs. Greater Terror, greater evil!
