Lots of vegans utilize a multitude of products with animal ingredients, like leather.  Most of them also feed their cats cat food.

You don't know enough vegans to make that claim. I know one true vegan, a Christian conservative btw, he did it for dietary reasons, not anything to do with animal welfare.

How many is enough?

I mean if you're going to make a sweeping derogatory statement about an entire group of people I think 10% of the world's population of vegans is a good sample size.

1) My comment was about a PART of that group, not the entire group.
2) One doesn't have to evaluate an entire population to draw high confidence conclusions about that population.  This is statistics 101.

Is 10% equivalent to 100%? This is 4th grade math.

10% would still be much too high.  7 would be enough to evaluate a population of 2.5 million to be 50% sure.  7 is << than 250,000 people

 :Wha: :Wha: :Wha: :Wha: :Wha:

OMG I FIGURED IT OUT!

Take the upside down/reversed apostrophe... sure looks like a 6... what is that at the bottom of the two "g"s in "ignoring"--sure looks like a couple 6s to me! For a brief refresher..

Why wouldn't you assume that trending topics on any website are curated?  Seems obvious.

I assumed they were driven by algorithms based on what people were talking about and clicking in your area. Kind of like facebook tweaking your news feed or a blog with a "top posts" section that is the most viewed posts over a period of time.

Fair. I guess with any large site, I assume things like that are heavily edited.

I mean, it seems like half of my trending topics on facebook are discussions about pseudo celebrity Instagram photos which also made me think they were not heavily edited and driven heavily by what my high school friends were clicking on.

Here are my current trending topics - lots of Bay Area talk, a Kansas story, a Bieber tattoo, and a story about the Philippines elections (I have several ex-coworkers from the Philippines who are very passionate about the elections)

So at the very least, there is some sort of location/friend based algorithm in addition to curation.
