Do you guys use it? I haven't touched my profile since my 610 days, but today I had a request to link with the girl who interviewed me a month ago at perceptive. With these latest events, I need to update my profile. Any success stories out there from using it? Can it be effective? TIA

I generally shun it because I feel like in my current situation people will hit me up for job oppy's and I won't recommend people unless I'm pretty damn sure they're pretty damn good.  Would totally use it if I hated my job or place of employment though.

Generally I just accept people when they request to be my friend (not sure if thats what you say on there)  Most seem to be people from high school that are late 20's early 30's and then older (50+) who think they are pretty hip.

It can be useful if you can connect to the right people.  I rarely used it, then a director where I used to work took a very cool, high-profile job.  Within 3 months of him taking that job I had 10 recruiters/head-hunters request to "connect" with me.  They saw his job title, went through his connections, and requested to connect with every engineer he was connected to.  Now I get 1-2 emails per week from them to apply for a job all because of that 1 connection on linked in.
I got a guy on the other line about some white walls

if you want to know who hates their job just look at the emails that tell you who has updated their profile.

I use it to connect to people I have worked with. I only accept connections to people I actually know, not rando recruiters. It is good for at least keeping a little in contact with people in your industry in case you need them in the future.

Also will be interesting to keep an eye on my jerk boss who just resigned after a confrontation with our president.

I use it to keep up with clients who move on to other companies.

Fantastic resource. If you do it right, and connect with the right people, eventually you won't have to apply for jobs because people will seek you out.

I just graduated and had about 5 or 6 interviews for jobs. I applied for them all, but within a week of all the interviews but one, I saw someone from that company had viewed my profile. Employers look... get a LinkedIn and update it.

I guess if you had been working in the same industry for 30 years you don't necessarily need one, but still... It couldn't hurt. Even if it doesn't directly help you, it could help someone else get a job because they are connected to you.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

Also, it takes like, 5 minutes to make one and the maintenance isn't like facebook where people are constantly using it. Most people with jobs just log on every now and then and check.

Update your LinkedIn Fanning, we're about to get connected!!  :excited:

made one for internship hunting. found out from garmin recruiter that with more and more younger recruiters targeting undergrads (20-25), that its a huge bonus if you have a professional website with excerpts from your resume and have better explanation on research or courses taken. way better (and easier for most) than making their own html site, and easier to find than using a company or university provided personal site.

3maw made one and used a qr code on business cards to link to it. was told that was a great way to get people to spend more time looking at you
