NDSU:
Waters scored on his 4th possession of the game, which was an 80 yard drive.  The next two drives of the half, orchestrated by waters, resulted in 7 plays for 7 yards and an INT.  Waters scored on his first possession of the third quarter.  Next drive was a Sams touchdown.  The next two drives were Waters punts.  The next one was waters' second INT of the game.

Sams: .5/.5, Waters: 2.5/9.5.

UL: Waters led a 60 yard drive which resulted in a field goal on the first possession.  Waters threw an INT.  Waters and Sams led a 71 yard TD drive.  Sams and Waters led a 49 yard TD drive.  Waters (alone) led a 31 yard drive that ended with a turnover on downs from an absolutely putrid option run on 4th and 1.  Waters led an 87 yard field goal drive. Two special teams TDs (i'm not giving that second one to Waters for the purposes of this thread.  TT got the ball to the 1).  Waters throws an INT.  Waters goes 3 and out.  Zim pick 6s.  Next drive we ran hubes 6 times in a row, no idea who QB was (wash).  Sams runs a 65 yard TD drive.  Sams finishes game on 2nd down (wash).

Waters: 8.5 drives (3 ".5 drives" when Sams is in).  1 solo TD drive. 3 Sams aided TD drives. 1 solo field goal drive
Sams: 1.5 drives (3 ".5 drives" when Waters is in).  3 Waters aided TD drives.

Total:
Sams has had a single solo drive the entire season, resulting in a TD. He's shared 5 drives with waters, 3 of which, have resulted in TDs. The others involved Sams in a combined 2 plays.

Waters has had 16 solo drives all season.  3 of those have ended in TDs, one has ended in a field goal.

maybe we also score on a much higher percentage of possessions with Sams in the game v. Waters. (actually not maybe, this is another real life data point)

No it's not!

After doing all of that, it's absurdly clear who the better quarterback is.  3 TDs and 1 FG on 16 drives is bad bad bad.

Something tells me this is only going to look much more lopsided if somebody dips into Daniel's stats from last season.

What's a "decent" points per possession stat?  If Waters is below average against poor competition and Sams is above then to me it's clear as day.

Dlew, give that research to The Ed and have him call Snyder again.

TOTAL PLAYS: (minus Hubert's mys-drive against UL):

Waters: 96 plays. 43 completions out of 60 for 558 yards.  2 TDs, 4 INTs.  15 rushing attempts for 14 yards.

Sams: 14 plays. 27 yards passing on 2 attempts. 10 rushes for 80 yards including 2 TDs.

Of note, 1 of Sams non pass/non Sams runs was a TD run by Hubes because Hubes is 500x better with a running QB alongside him.

Is this the week where it becomes clear to everyone who the QB should be?  I mean, it looks like UMass is a warm pile of dog crap.  Does Bill divide the quarters?  Alternate possessions?  Of the games so far, this looks like the one he could go in with a scripted plan and stick to it.

Last year:

Missouri State: 1 drive, 1 TD

North Texas: 1 drive, clock killed

Miami: 2 drives, 2 TDs

Kansas: 2 drives, 1 TD, 1 clock killed

West Virginia: 1 drive, 1 field goal

Texas Tech: 1 drive, clock killed

Oklahoma State: 5 drives, 2 field goals, 1 missed field goal, 1 punt, clock killed

So Sams has led 13 solo drives now, has committed no turnovers and has only led the team to 1 punt.

Unlikely we see anything out of either QB.  UMass so bad, Bill's just gonna pack it in.  Don't give UT any film.

But, I mean, he's got to start Sams against UT, right?  Even bill can't resist unleashing Sams against that run Defense, right?

If Bill starts Waters against UT, I can't dispute any claims to him throwing the game to save Mack's job.  :peek:

Okay, I could....but I would refuse to do so!

It would seem to me that anyone who scores TDs grasps the playbook. At least to my LFBIQ eyes.
