So, they told all the people that got laid off on Monday that they could come back into the office over the next two weeks to use the company resources if they wanted. One guy that was laid off has come in every day and stayed all day. I have no idea what he's doing or why he keeps coming in but it seems odd. Based on his reputation of being a habitual user of pain pills one might think he just forgot that he was let go. But he tells everyone that walks by that he was fired and that he's going to miss them.

I would invest in some body armor.  Dude sounds sketchy.

I started a new job today. There is actually a goEMAW member that works here (and posts from work...), but he doesn't know I work here, yet. I plan on messing with him.

So what do you think is going to happen once he tells his wife?   :ohno:

Had layoffs at my last company after a failed M&A, was never at risk, but found out they got like 25 weeks salary for getting laid off.  Really wanted to leave so I lined up a few positions and waited and waited to see if I would get laid off.  Bastards never came through for me.  Had to finally say eff it and take a different job.  Would have been a sweet bonus.

Lay-ups are preferable to lay-offs.

Anyone hiring mechanical engineers?

T's & P's 8man.  We let go some software/hardware engineer type folks.  They were "strategic" cuts as we consolidate those functions in India/China.  :frown:

How is everyone's respective companies doing?  Like are some of you out there killing it and I ought to take a look around?  Haven't interviewed outside in 3 years or so.

FWIW my company (industrial, manufacturing, high-tech ish) is globally flat year over year despite budgeted double digit growth.  Most of the year we've been in cost-saving mode (limited travel and leaving positions open) and now recently to cost-cutting mode (closing projects and eliminating positions).

We just scrapped a new product (high tech) model and are staying with the current model to save capital. Sales are flat throughout our market and competitors.

Sales are up year to year. Ahead of budget too. I work for OEM owned HVAC distribution. Industry is trailing us. We're hiring across the country in manufacturing and distribution.
