Baxter Springs. It's right next to what's basically the worst Superfund site and ghost town in America (Picher, OK). Everyone who lives in Baxter Springs is going to turn into The Flood within 20 years.

Would you rather live next to a Superfund site on one, though?

Have a squawk friend from Hiawatha and spent the 4th of July there this year. Did not think it was that terrible. :dunno:

You married someone from Coffeyville.  I question your judgment

Great little league baseball teams, though.

SE KS, SW MO, and NE OK are the most depressing areas ever. no question, no doubt.  I once visited a friend at Pitt State, did not do again.

Haven't spent much time there, but Atchison seems really awful.  According to a friend who is from there, they still have a Division Street that is the de facto split between the black and white parts of town.  Also, it smells like crap.

LUCAS, KANSAS

Home of the Garden of Eden and the Grassroots Art Capital of Kansas.

an absolutely traumatizing experience. probably worth it's own thread.
Lucas is awesome

Yes. These are both pro-Lucas talking points. If you have a post rock/barbed wire museum, that pretty much disqualifies you from the coffeyville trophy, which is named after a town whose attraction is a mildewy old condemned house built by the last literate man in town history.

and the answer is Liberal.  They have nothing to offer there.  NOTHING.
Wondering who is running this hot dog stand and seriously considering heading out for tacos.

This thread would probably be more interesting if it were about the worst city in Oklahoma. Coffeyville would be one of the 10 best cities in Oklahoma.

This.

South Coffeyville, OK is a real crap hole.

Oh man. A lot of Sale Barn/Sunday beer envy in this post.

People have been known to drive all the way from Coffeyville to get cheaper cigarettes also. But then they complain because the new Walmarts is all the way on the outskirts of town, so it takes a whole 5 minutes to get there.

A population that commutes to buy cheap cigarettes is a strike against your town, not the selling town. Excellent use of Walmarts, though.

Something to consider:

Quote
Kansas cities ranked from worst to best for crime based on violent crime ranking:
Worst
Grandview Plaza
Leavenworth
Merriam...

when you compare it to atchison, seneca, sabetha, holton, etc. it's the dump of the bunch. does that make it horrible? oh i don't know.

Hutchinson. It's depressing. It's big enough that if you grow up there, there are a few jobs so you feel almost obligated to stay. It's windy and dry and desolate. The exciting things to do in town involve visiting the Walmart and it meets the criteria of having a JUCO.

:horrorsurprise:  I am from Hutch and hate Hutch.  Then I met people at K-State from actually shitty towns that would tell me they would drive into Hutch to hang out.  Thats how bad some of these towns are.

Also, Roy's BBQ would redeem any of these towns

I EMAT'd (Every Man A Tiger) at Cowley CC for couple of years before heading up to KSU.  Ark City is kind of dumpy and I may even have lived in your bro's slum house but Ark City couldn't really be a contender for 2nd worst town in the state.....could it??

Chetopa is the Catfish Capitol of the World. Nothing there but a bunch of catfish heads on poles.

Chetopa is also pretty bad, but it's no Galena. For some reason I thought it was in Oklahoma.

The only reason I could see anybody possibly considering Galena to be more livable than any other city in Kansas is that it is near Joplin, and a town like Chetopa is completely isolated. Still, on its own merits, Galena is the worst.

Grandview Plaza sounds like a trailer park to me. Are you sure that is a real city with its own government and everything?

Horton. Words cannot describe that god awful place. It wins, if you haven't been there, give thanks to whomever or whatever you believe in that you have been able to live your life to this point without having to go to Horton. Go party it up in Galena, or Hiawatha, or Liberal, or Oakley. Ask Santa for a custom made t-shirt that says, "At least I am not in Horton."
