Is it one hour or just same day? I'm sure they have a huge distro facility in the valley and could run a truck or two of same day deliveries a day pretty easily.

Also see point 2.

same day, not the one hour.  same day is in 27 cities.

i thought about it/googled it more and understand it now.  they had already built the dispersed warehouses to accommodate two day delivery.  once they had those, same day isn't much more than using a courier instead of a carrier.  amazing that they have so many items stocked in so many warehouses.

Yeah they are turning a major profit but there's a good chance same day delivery in Fresno isn't profitable yet, even with paying employees crap.

Also in the bay area they do their own deliveries now on Sundays. I ordered something that I didn't need until Wednesday but it came on Sunday and I like felt bad.

This would not make me feel even a little bit bad.

They've been doing this for a long time (and not just in the Bay Area)

Good to see lib7 trying to profit off of wage slaver Amazon and their .1%'er CEO.

another little bit of elevator gossip i heard was that kone and otis are so backed up with north american orders that contractors aren't even bothering getting bids from them.  maybe explains amazon's decision to drop down to a schindler a little.

one way amazon has been successful and will continue to be successful with same day is that they are hiring lots of people to essentially "uber" as couriers.  They will continue to scale that up.

my wife was a little freaked out when a no uniform dude with a no livery vehicle rang the bell at 10 pm and shoved an amazon package at her.  i emailed her to tell her i'd purchased, but she hadn't seen it beforehand.
