The fact that the story they want you to believe is that he got duped/he's dumb is sufficient reason not to believe it.  They don't exactly appear to be coming clean here.  You should at least question the story while withholding belief.

Honestly, other than lying about meeting the girl, I don't even know what Te'o is supposed to have done anymore. This thing is like someone telling you how 9/11 was an inside job, where's there's no real outline of how it was pulled off, just "well what about THIS weird thing?" and a general insistance that it happened.

This is fantastic.  Love that the best case scenario is to call yourself an idiot rather than a compulsive liar that lies so much he may actually have a mental/personality disorder requiring medication. 

What will be fantastic will be when he gets like a 35 on his Wonderlic. 

Also, ND is winning with this idiot defense.  Really erasing the myth of the high standards and how it may/may not limit it's recruiting.  Don't feel like your kid could make it work at ND due to academics?  Well, Te'o did fine and he is the biggest idiot of 2012.
