Yep.  Way too much detail in back story. 

Also, the thing not focused on in the media I have heard today is that the guy behind the hoax(supposedly) was supposedly a very good friend of Te'o.

In hoaxes, there has to be a payoff.  Financially, emotionally, something.  What was the payoff for a guy to get pics from some old classmate, alter said pics enough to not have Google Image eff up his fun, hire a chick to act like some fake chick for a year on the phone daily, make multiple fake social media accts, call up Te'o's pops and fam and have convos, etc.

That is a deep detailed long con and I just don't see what the payoff is.  It certainly is a lot of work to just call someone a dumbass and laugh.

The pay off that makes sense is that the con was on the media and the nation and that the payoff is increased hype for Te'o for awards and draft status.  All the media I have heard today blow this off as not being feasible because it supposedly started 3 yrs ago.  Well, his own story says that the gf part of the relationship started this year, so I would guess the con started this year and the other 2 yrs are simply back story.

I just don't see anyway this is anything else at this point.

Even the gay thing seems much less likely for some reason now.

There was an article that stated it was common knowledge on campus that he was banging hoes.  While this does not disprove the gay theory, it makes it more unlikely than I previously thought.

He's fine with the generic details, like her "godliness" for example, but has zero insight into anything else about her illness or life. There's no way you can read that interview and find his catfish/victim explanation more credible.

Don't underestimate how weird people can be.  It's very possible that during this long timeframe, Ronaiah could have easily filled in all of those details.  I mean, there's already good evidence he had elaborate hoaxes going on with other people for no reason.  This is how he gets his kicks. 

I'm not saying that Manti didn't know about it, but Ronaiah is obviously a psycho and Manti is obviously dumb so it isn't that cut and dry.

EDIT:  Manti is also a huge and possibly compulsive liar which makes the situation even more confusing.  His lies would seemingly implicate him, but I'm just not sure he was smart enough to know when to stop lying even after knowing she was fake.

yes. people in their last few days while dying from a terminal illness go through stages and one of the stages is not to pick up the phone and call someone ten states away to tell them how sad you are to hear about their grandmother passing. i mean there are parts of the story that are ridiculous, but that is one of if not the most ridiculous.
