I would say the '98 offense was better at most positions than the '12 offense except wr'

However, I do remember being worried about a turnover on every snap in '98 and never worrying this season.

I think Michael Bishop is the only starter on the '98 offense who would be a starter on the '12 team.
I will take the entire '98 backfield over the 2012 version.
Free edge up to defensive starters when opponents held under 10.

You're splitting hairs between Hubert and Hickson. Wilson is better than Goolsby, though.

1995 had two losses to top 10 teams
1997 lost one game to the national champs
1998 was obviously better
1999 lost one game to the national runner-up
2000 lost three games, two to the national champs and one at A&M
2002 lost 2 games by a total of 7 points.

2003 lost to Marshall at home...now that's a real  :flush:

There's my arguement.  You'd probably all remember this except that you don't because you weren't alive to see it.

That's 10 losses. You didn't mention a single win.

I was there, and you just illustrated it perfectly, that's what the "decade of dominance" was all about.

One more thing, what do all of the aforementioned teams except '98 have in common that 2003 does not?

Also, half of the big 8 won 10 games in '95

We gave up 145 points in the '95 regular season...and 49 of them were to Nebraska.  :sdeek:

Fun fact: In the 1999 NFL draft, our first player taken was taken at #80. That was Gramatica. Our first payer taken from offense or defense was taken at #198.

Most of our talent was on defense, as is evidenced by the number of players from the '99 defense that made it to the NFL.

Our defensive players in the 2000 draft got taken at #33, #67, and #146. So I guess you can claim our defense was crazy talented, but that it still seems to me that we're overestimating it quite a bit.

Terrence Newman (2003 draft), John McGraw(2002 draft), Mario Fatafehi(2001 draft), Chris Johnson(2001...not sure if/where drafted) were also on that defense

This thread is about '98. Newman redshirted in '98. McGraw didn't start till 2000. Fatafehi was a JUCO transfer, so he was not on the team in '98.

You brought up the 2000 draft, so I just mentioned those players.

13 of those guys played in the NFL.  Does not include 98 significant contributors Murphy, Gramatica, Beisel and Allen who all played in the NFL as well.

:curse: :curse: :curse: Did you see that starting Oline? Care to change your tune?

Also, I think Hickson & Lawrence give Hubert & Pease a run (no pun intended) for their money. A healthy Marlon Charles or A-game Frank Murphy outclass Hubert entirely. You mix in the '98 receiving corps with the '12 receiving corps and you'd have a mix of starters from both.  When we need speed or a long pass play down field who would you rather have beside Aaron Lockett?

Who was our punter in '98? Garcia?

Also, off topic but in response to another poster, you can't leave 2003 (I'm talking SR E3 & the Dr. Pepper Team) out of the mix when discussing best 'Cats teams of all time. Marshall at home? You do know Ell was out and we had a backup in, right? (I know, I know, Steve Dave, you CAN'T throw games out). They are our only other modern-era League Champs!

Lawrence graduated after the 97 season.  Hickson got a medical redshirt and played an extra year.

Hickson was the last KSU Purple Cat football player that was older than me. :cyclist:

You guys should all just look at those caps that Yosh posted and shut the hell up.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

I don't know, but I do remember in '98 doing that clapping safety signal thing pretty much every time the opponent would start inside their 10 yard line.  And then we would really get a safety and I would be so super pumped.

yeah. different offenses today, but back then when it was 3&11 you just knew that the play would result in a sack or a pick.

Hi guys!

I haven't read this thread in a while, just here to say that I might bet my immortal soul on 98 beating the rough ridin' dick off of 2012.

In the 2012 format, the 2003 team finishes 3rd in the conference and plays in the Holiday bowl at 10-3.

In the 2012 format, we play less non con, so we don't play against Marshall. Ell never gets hurt. KSU goes undefeated and is still considered the greatest team of all time

this thread is really exposing old balls who have made the 1998 team better in their mind with each passing year
