Why the 2003 team is out of this discussion: No backup QB!!! It is why we lost to Marshal and started our 3 game slide. If we had a solid backup I don't think ER3 would have come back so quick and maybe then he wouldn't have fumbled away our win at Texas. Damn you Vince Young!!!
1998: I think was more talented. Disadvantage is that Bishop couldn't audible and Swift had to. We had great special teams, great D and great O but we didn't face a lot of tough tests except Colorado on the road and Nebraska at home. The D didn't give up more than 20 until the champ game and bowl game. It had Howard, Kelly, Simoneau, Ochs, Carter, Cooper, Chapman, Butler, Beisel, Mcintosh... That D was flat stacked. OL was damn good too. Bishop had a better arm than Klien but is dumb as rocks and was only 55% completion.
2012: Klien is a better game manager. OL is as good or better (coaching) and I think Huebert is better than Hickson. I think 98 had better depth with Murphy and Allen being backups. McDonald and Lockett were good but I think I would take our WR group as a hole now over then.
I think our O is better now but our D was better then. Our corners was so good back then we blitzed all the time and let them go one on one. Now we are constantly in the nickle defense, mainly because everyone is a pass team. Back then we would have left our LB's out there and made them cover or put pressure. We are spotty on getting pressure against teams this year.
