Did you know...

In the last 22 years, K-State has been only been blown out by OU in Norman ONCE; 2005's 21-43 defeat.

Even 2009's team was within 5 points with seven minutes left in the game.

08 and 11 were blow outs; OU scored 58 each time.

00 and 04 were 10 point losses.

The '01 game was probably a game we should have won.

We gave them a freebie on Ell's check into option, which was the right call, they literally had no one on that side, but we had  no one there on the pitch (a common theme when we go to Norman).   We also gave them a cheap TD on a cheesy ass fake punt when everybody in the stadium and the world (except the team) knew they were gonna run a fake.

dax is a well known KU fan. Kind of surprised the mods haven't changed his queso jars yet.

it really takes a lot for me to change a poster's queso jars.  dax is no where close to that territory, yet.

Yep. The first sentence is why we've lost all but 1 to OU in the Stoops era. The 2nd sentence is why 3 of the last 4 have been blowouts. Our secondary's efforts so far this year don't make me especially hopeful that we can avoid #2. We can hope that Landry is a bit off-sync like he seemed to be against UTEP. Problem is, when all he has to do is throw a little 7-15 yard crossing route that the WR catches then blows by our defensive backs for 6, it's a lot easier to get back into sync.

Here's how we might win Saturday:  lose the toss, receive the ball, good return, 6-minute drive for a TD. OU's not quite in sync on first drive, punts. We drive for a 2nd TD, another 6-minute drive. From there on out, we have no turnovers, force two on OU, have ~37 minute TOP, and try to make them run more than 4-5 plays on their scoring drives.

Through 3 games, KSU has #18 rushing attack.  755yrds on 128 attempts.  5.90avg.  11 TDs.

Through 2 games, OU has #50 rush defense.  268yrds on 64 attempts.  4.2avg.  Gave up 207yrds to UTEP, 61 to F&M.  UTEP is a fairly bad team.

I expect OU to be better against the run than they were @ UTEP.  But, if KSUers are looking for that single ray of hope, maybe we will be able to run the ball effectively, eat clock, minimize possessions, etc.

If we get down early and have to pass the ball, however, this game will be over in the 1st Q.

To dax, slmz and all the other negative nancy's:

Yes, we get it.  We are an underdog.  Did you not read the freaking thread title?  WE ARE ALL AWARE!  I don't really know who you think you're talking to with your concern trolls about the team being ready and your pre-emptive melt downs.  If you have lived Big 8, Big 12, Big 12-2 football, you know this matchup.  As _FAN astutely pointed out, this matchup has not been as lopsided as the score suggests!  EVEN IN NORMAN!

Now I also want to bring something else to your attention.  In the Stoops era here are the QB's we've brought to Norman:

2001: Sophomore Ell Roberson
2005: Senior Allen Webb
2009: Senior Grant Gregory
2012: Senior Collin Klein

Which of these is not like the other ones?  A sophomore, two transfer QBs or a 2nd year starter with immense game experience.  Of course the defense has to play well, but we should put up points.  We should control the tempo.

Look at '09!
We won TOP, had 50% 3rd down conversion (despite giving up 76%!!), converted 66% 4th Down! and 80% in the RZ.  Why did we lose?  The first four possessions of the game OU went 8 plays for 14-0, while Kstate went 6 plays, two punts.  AND WE STILL WERE KICKING OFF WITH 11 MINUTES TO GO DOWN 5!  We even hold them to a FG and it is a 1 possession game!  I am not claiming any moral victories here, but that 2009 squad was awful.

People have seemingly lost all sense of perspective.  This game will be competitive.  There will be an opportunity for either team to win it.  Whether KSU seizes that opportunity or not I cannot say, but I watched the oSu game last year and that is about how I expect this game to go.  Down to the last posession.

Enjoy it CAT fans.  Prepare yourself to enjoy it.  This moment has a clear expiration date.

. . . the fact the head coach and the DC know Snyder inside and out and back again, and likely understand that K-State will come out tight as a snare drum in winter, and the trifecta of Snyder/Dimel/Miller will have outschemed themselves (as usual) particuarly in the first half and so we'll likely look like a train wreck (see 1st half Cotton Bowl).

Not to mention our bend but don't break defense will allow superior athletes to turn up field and will clownsuit our tacklers.
