My normal has changed over the years from not being a big fan to doing Makers as my normal. They have been sold out here and I bought some Woodford Reserve. May switch to that being the normal go to from now on.

Those are very different bourbons. I'm not a big fan of Maker's because it is a wheated bourbon. They tend to be sweeter and lack complexity in my experience.

Although I abstain these days, I did enjoy trying all the different distillers available here in KY. My favorites were always single barrels. Top two were both 125 proof: 1792 and Woodford. Daily sipper from the bottom shelf was Very Old Barton 80 or 100 on a rock or two.

Days gone by. I've moved to trying the different flavored sparkling waters out there. S. Pellegrino is in the lead.

Some friends and I did the Bourbon tours in Louisville a while back and a lot of the locals said that Old Crow is the best "cheap" whiskey and better than a lot of the fancy ones. I think it all tasted the same.  :Yuck:

why would someone name something "old crow" or "fighting male genitals"  ?  are whiskey inventors just stupid?

It's hot toddy szn.  Everyone drop your favorite hot toddy recipes here.  I love a nice hot toddy on a cold wintry day.  How about you?
Not sure if these all count as hot toddies but last nite I tried:

1. 1 part bourbon + 2 parts hot chocolate + dash of cinnamon => 7/10
2. 1 part bourbon + 3 parts hot water + dash of lemon juice + generous amt of honey + dash of cinnamon => 6/10

both were enjoyable as I prepared for the winter death storm

Had a laphroaig last night and fell right asleep. Might be a new Friday tradition. I was pretty tired anyways, but fell asleep in my easy chair next to the fire.

What's a good starting place for Scotch? Like the F-150 of Scotch?

Depends on what you like.

I like a peaty scotch, but I get why a lot of people don't.  So I'd say step one is do you like a smokey smell/flavor in your drink?

I like Lagavulin 16, but it's probably pricier than it's worth.

Probably Glenlivet 12yr or maybe Macallan 10yr.  Good entry-level single malts, they are both pretty similar.
