The French are not appreciating my daughter screaming "U-S-A!" every time they try to do an "allez le Bleu"
This grown man put his fingers in his ears after goals (and most of the crowd around us was French who were louder if they did something good

Ask him if he speaks German, Russ

The pool play for water polo is at one of the few new venues they built which is right next to the Stade de France and we could hear the stadium get loud when we went outside between games in our session. It was mostly wood and I liked it a lot

Also this guy has a shirt that said "Icky Trump on it and had some stuff about white guys on the back but he was moving too fast for my photo to be useful. (My guess is the shirt is a response to first thing Euros want to ask Americans if if they like trump)

(But I looked it up and it was this: https://www.detroitnews.com/story/entertainment/music/2016/10/06/third-man-records-sells-icky-trump-shirt/91689190/ )

Great announcers makes sports so much bette, and NBC has incredible track and field announcers.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

No Olympics today. We're at boring st Mont Michele. But Tuesday we have the USWNT in Lyon!!! We got the tickets before and just lucked out

Forgot to mention that we have some family friends through water polo who we met at the game yesterday. They are Hungarian-American and live in NYC and were on their way to Hungary for the rest of the summer. And Hungary played after the US! After the game on the way to the train the kids made tiktoks with the "my pronouns are U-S-A" and this sound: https://youtu.be/d-laMjPRbVI?si=dVML3gebaSd_F3dq

Dumb French people were very annoyed with the fun they were having but it was great.

Still to come:

Women's soccer semis
Men's water polo semifinals
Women's water polo bronze and finals
Tae Kwon do finals

I also want to do prime time athletics (track and field). It's expensive but I loved the morning session I did. Might also do women's volleyball because it rules. And maybe something like wrestling if a ticket pops up. All in all Paris is a great host city (maybe the best it could get?) and I would 100% do it again

how are you buying tickets for the various events that you’re attending? is there a marketplace type app that is run through the ioc or is it all stubhub type crap?

There's a resale platform for tickets at face value plus 10%. You can't get things like beach volleyball or USA basketball because of demand unless you get really lucky but there are plenty of tickets available if you aren't too picky about the specific event

if I were there, the 5x5 basketball would be pretty far down the list of things i’d want to see

are the base prices wildly different based on popularity? like is men’s basketball significantly higher base price versus something less popular or are they all about the same with some variances due to arena size or whatever

I would think not but maybe?

It's interesting to look at the resale ticket prices. Seems like you could do some bargain shopping and not need to spend a ton of money. Or not do that and easily break the bank.

A lot of those offers listed are already gone. Most tickets in beach volleyball or cheap tickets in things like athletics are gone within seconds and the site is really shitty. There's been a few times I thought I had tickets but they were gone before I could get them in my cart. And the true open market has like 10x markups. But you can find deals if you're patient and flexible

And clams, yeah, I had no desire to watch 5x5 basketball. I can walk to Barclays center and see the best men and women in the world play whenever I want for much less than what tickets are going for in Paris. I did try to get 3x3 but they were also super high demand.

Also yes prices vary by popularity. Medal rounds are always higher and evening track is like twice as much as the morning session the same day. Like there are 980 euro tickets available for the later athletics sessions and I think tickets for the session I attended were around 75.

I'm watching Olympics in my hotel in the French sticks (which is most of France) and holy crap it is entertaining because they aren't commentating they are CHEERING for French athletes. One woman was commentating on a ring performance and only said "allez allez allez" (let's go) over and over and then screamed "ouiiiiiii!!!!" When he nailed the landing and got really pissed when his score wasn't good. I watched France 3x3 basketball vs Serbia and it was similar but the commentator simply squealed when France won.

Countries that aren’t the GOAT have to have the most fun when they finally win some bronze medal. Envious.

Yeah I have been to two events where they got their crap kicked in plus track where they did absolutely nothing but their fans showed up and had a blast I was like "oh that's cute how they show up and cheer even though they suck crap" but I looked it up and they were like third in the medal count! Also I was at a cafe and a table lost their crap at an archery shot they were watching on their phone so obviously they are only good at sports that don't matter.

Meanwhile my family was in SHAMBLES when the US women took silver and bronze in the 100. It’s not a life I would recommend to anyone. Takes a different type.

SIAP. K-Stater Eugene Omalla won gold along with Femke Bol in the mixed 4x400 relay.

EDIT: Saw that KITH posted this in the KSU track thread.

Awesome pics, michigancat.

Sifan Hassan has the 5000M final tonight as she attempts to triple in the 5000M, 10000M and marathon. Looking forward to watching.

I'm in Lyon right now and it's DEAD. Only event is survey tomorrow plus I think more business shut down for summer here.

Paris doesn't feel crowded - I've read that tourism is actually down overall because so many normal tourists are avoiding the Olympics. We've mostly eaten at weird times or made reservations though because of the evening events. There are so many shitty cafes that it isn't hard to find places to eat. Only really crowded trains I've had were from the airport and to track and field. Lots of venues have multiple ways to get in and out on trains and they have an app that suggests routes that might not normally be the fastest but will probably be best for crowding. I ignored it once and the station was packed, the rest of the time it wasn't bad at all.

Also I think I missed the boat on $300 athletics tickets. :frown:
