Looks like it was South Dakota St., which explains why the visitors section is so empty.  Attendance was 46,601.

Aside from the North endzone, Memorial Stadium's seats are just as close to the field as K-State's:

And yes, to the objective eye, Memorial Stadium's setting and location are way, way better.

Nice picture of a full Memorial Stadium.  Must have been from that one good year they had when they were self proclaimed Big 12 north champs. T-shirt fans were out in full effect.

Butthurt is as butthurt does.

That doesn't even make sense in the context of this thread.  Our stadium is awesome, yours sucks.

Your stadium is a hole in the ground with a grandstand on one side and a stone-clad cruise ship on the other.  The only thing that makes it good is the screaming of the purple masses, and that's not a bad thing.  You guys have done the most with the least, so you should be proud.

I'm glad the resident squawks have such low expectations for a football stadium, if BSFS looked like that heads would roll.

There was nothing as ugly as the track or the erector set you guys have and will have for a while still.

you use the "hole in the ground" thing a lot on phog.net too.  do you really believe that's a bad thing or is it just a talking point?  be aware, how you answer this question says a lot about you.

yet when the big 12 implodes, that shanty town will have a home in a power conference while Kstate might find a home in the mountain west :)

Can you guys imagine this place once the track is removed and a few things are updated?  It's going to be unreal.

The hill might offer some value if UK's campus was as nice as state's, alas,it is not, its a rough ridin' hill.

Even if that happens, the stadium structure and exterior will still look extremely ugly and shitty.

I assume you are using the universal "you" in this context.  For acoustic purposes, no I don't believe it's a bad thing.  For construction/engineering purposes, no it's not a bad thing - cheaper and easier to build.  For aesthetics and general impressions, though?  I've seen a lot of high school and small-time college stadia utilize that method.  Some people may conflate the "hole in the ground"ness of it with high school and small-time college stadia.  It certainly diminishes the visual impact from without.
