I still want to know what a "true" stadium is.

I'm so glad we turned Zenger down and got Currie instead.
I once blew clove smoke in a guy's face that cut in front of me in the line to KJ's.

I'm guessing true football stadium, as in also used for T&F and quidditch?  I dunno.

K-State is putting the finishing touches on $89.75 million dollars in football stadium improvements, will be finalizing brand new A/V and Technology phases for its major sports venues in the next few weeks and has Phase III of Football Stadium Improvements out for architectural response, on top of opening up a brand new on campus crew facility, and just opening the doors to a state of the art basketball training facility.

KU, finally getting that outdoor track.  It's way off campus, required a 50 year lease and a huge loan for a sport that will never turn a profit and for a track meet that's at the lower end of the "major" meet hierarchy.  But they're spending a bunch of private money to build a building for a book, and still hmming and hawing around about what to do with their old decrepit football stadium aka the home of the most important sport in college athletics.

Fantastic.

Our eliteness is almost unfair to KU.  How do they go on?  Women's jogging I guess.

Aside from the North endzone, Memorial Stadium's seats are just as close to the field as K-State's:

And yes, to the objective eye, Memorial Stadium's setting and location are way, way better.

Nice picture of a full Memorial Stadium.  Must have been from that one good year they had when they were self proclaimed Big 12 north champs. T-shirt fans were out in full effect.

Butthurt is as butthurt does.

That doesn't even make sense in the context of this thread.  Our stadium is awesome, yours sucks.

But look at the hill and campus in the background! Those make Memorial way better!

I mean, really, I can take a picture from an angle and make it seem like it's in the middle of nowhere.

Why did KU dump their stadium in the middle of an apartment complex?

I bet Zulu already has the paving companies on standby for when they don't need those shot put and discus areas outside the stadium.

i was looking at the coliseum where USC plays.  USC had to pull out the track that was left from the olympics and it essentially added only 8,000 seats so it can be done without a huge renovation.  one issue though is that those endzone seats are still limited in distance to the field because the extension of the sideline seats prevents them from getting much closer.  it cost southern cal $15m to fix their track issue but that was like 20 yrs ago.

the east side is like the hill side on memorial, nothing can save that mess.

i've been to games there and sat in the west endzone and the distance was noticeable.

Link to Washington's recent stadium renovation:

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=172&f=2485&t=11733813&p=14
good grief BMW- lets quit playing HeeHaw with the eff around gang

Washington is essentially rebuilding their entire stadium, KU AD is retrofitting yours

UW's cost for the project you linked will end up being in the neighborhood of $275m

KU won't come close to doing anything that complex

both sides need to quit the contest of delusionality for fucks sake

I'm not sure how much it will cost in the end, but KU is going to do significant upgrades to Memorial Stadium (likely in phases, similar to K-State and BSFS).  Rumblings:

Quote
As many have speculated, the track will be removed, the field will be lowered, and the seating will be brought in closer to the field of play, while also increasing the "pitch" of the bleachers around the entire stadium. The north bowl will be squared and brought in to accommodate this purpose. The open end of the horseshoe will be closed by a very low profile structure which may or may not feature a small number of seats, but will not impact the view of the "Hill" from most of the stadium. The structure will feature a series of tunnels to facilitate commencement activities, the team's entrance on to the field, etc. There will also be comprehensive improvements to concession and restroom facilities, technology to enhance the fan experience, and aesthetics. The suites and press boxes will be renovated, and infrastructure will be installed on the east side and north bowls to accommodate potential expansion.

Confirmed?  Last time I heard it was just under consideration (horrible idea, obviously).

Are those rumblings from the same guy that said the Big 12 would be done in 2-3 years?

They're in sync with other rumblings/rumors I've heard regarding the stadium, but to answer your question, yes.

Advantage Memorial Stadium, once again.  I mean, no more majestic Flint Hills sunsets with LHC Bill Snyder Town Hall blocking the view.
