Forgot to put a link there. 30-40 casualties in a clash this morning. MB calling for an intifada.

So what are the chances this turns into some sort of civil war?

Not sure on egyptian demographics but are they all sunni with a little bit of coptic christians sorting the trash, or do they have a mix of religions like Iraq?

Aren't they the ones that did the initial intifada to get the original US propped up guy out a little over a yr ago?  I mean, it seems like intifada is becoming overused.  Everywhere you go....intifada this, intifada that.  Vendors: "Come to Tahir Square every Wednesday to take advantage of Intifada Wednesday pricing!"

Intifada and revolution aren't perfectly interchangeable. And the "uprising" that ousted Mubarak was a coalition of the two sides clashing now against the military currently supporting the opposition.

That's simplifying of course because there's tenuous coalitions within each side. But that's the basic gist: people unite and oust military, then people divide and non-MBers oust Morsi and cheer as military arrests the president they elected a year ago as the least of all evils.

Personally, even though Morsi was terrible and divisive and Chavez-y, I think his ouster was ultimately an unfortunate development. Voting your first unpopular leader out of office is a crucial stage in developing a democratic culture. But coming from a much more privileged political background, I try not to be too judgy about it.

Oh, and I imagine someone else could give a better description, but I guess the intifada/revolution relationship is sorta square/rhombus. A revolution can be achieved by mass protests, civil disobedience, peacefully standing your ground, etc. intifada carries a connotation of assymetrical warfare and armed conflict. The MB is referring to the latter.

Isn't it weird to think of the military as its own entity?

Yeah.  Why doesn't the government stop paying them until they get right as employees?

This is NOT gonna look good on their quarterly review.

Prob union workers with union contract clause that allows coup in case of nonpayment, and who wants that?

Unions.......can't live with em, can't coup without them.  Whatchagonnado?

Upon that news hopefully all military aid to Egypt has been suspended indefintely, don't study the situation, just do it.   No U.S. arms, period.

I don't know if it matters.  I mean, the last group had something like an entire week to figure out this coup thing and ended up showing up in construction hats, umpire pads, and new shovel handles.

Just send over some Home Depot cards and let them all figure this out amongst themselves.  :dunno:

background notes to self for character development in eventual hit tv show produced by skinnybenny, chunkles, and _33:

the slightly scary stud boss who runs the office drinks tall monster cans all day, but uses a straw (he has amazing teeth). He also only eats eggs when scrambled or in an omelet because he can't stand to eat them "if they still look like an egg." He also has an appropriate stud boss-sized apartment in a stud boss locale downtown, but lives alone. One room is free weights. He looks like a cross between George Hamilton and Lou Ferrigno. One time, he babysat office hottie's tiny dog while she was out of country. She brought him a tiny pink dog purse because "Maya (the dog's name!) likes to go with me when I walk downtown but the street cats harass her." He did not use it. Also, the dog took an adorably tiny crap in his laundry basket.

Today, office hottie dressed her pocket-sized dog (white curly hair, toy poodle maybe?) as one of those stuffed ikhwan sheep, complete with a collar with the red "leave" sign as a tag. Adorable.

OMG, I'd rather see pics of this more than the hottie. (by about a billion miles)

i think we can all agree that both would be ideal. but yeah, if given the choice of only one then i'll take the dog.

I know, I was tempted to break my rule of posting pics of other people's personal lives on this one. But can you imagine the outrage if a pic of that dog frolicking around the embassy right now got out somehow? (<--episode!)

I mean the absurdity of it getting leaked on a message board devoted to Kansas State Athletics with a ridiculous name would just make it better. It could feature scenes with you explaining that it's pronounced "go-EEEMAW" not "GOMAW" and then go into the fatty explanation of how EMAW is technically an acronym but not really because it means so much more and three of your bosses are just :blank:'ing at you.

I would watch this sitcom.  Since we're not going to get pictures, at least let us know who would be cast as hottie

It will be leaked The Firm style after hemmy prints the thread but one page falls under the machine.

I think a scene where you're interrogated about "WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS FELIX REX?" could also take some hilarious turns.

I've mentioned this anecdote multiple times, but egyptian buildings don't have AC in the bathroom (side note: I really need to post some pics of egyptian engineering in action for the gurus on this board to enjoy). Anyway, it hit a dry 113 the other day and completely bricked an entire package of wet wipes.

That said, DC is worse. The humidity. OMG. I'm embarrassed every time I walk down the block for some coffee and look like I've been jumping rope in the attic.
