You would probably not have a super good time in Egypt right now. Don't like fireworks, don't like rape circles. How do you feel about car horns, sad donkeys and visible smog occasionally punctuated by sandstorms?

It was hard to tell from the unsteady shots and glimpses of nudity if she was being freed or not. I hope they got there before anything worse happened.

What's the consensus reaction to, I forget his name, the satirist being forced to end his show?

The consensus among sensible folk is that the most prominent critical voice choosing to self-censor himself after already continuing his show through three regimes (who all arrested/charged/threatened him with various complaints) is a pretty chilling sign for free speech under Sisi.

The pro-Sisi crazies say he was an agent of the MB and the US and a Zionist (this is a rare trifecta of nefariousness, even for Egypt) and that he quit to make Sisi look bad.

Mainstream, young Egyptians are just pissed that their favorite show is gone. They used to gather in squares and the streets outside cafés in huge numbers and watch every Friday night. His show was the top rated program every week, and the replay was usually ranked 3-4. Just a massive amount of influence. But like he said, his two million twitter followers weren't going to protect him.

Thanks for the information.  This just begs one question. Is FR 9.9k times a person than Youseff for continuing the hard hitting social commentary despite multiple regime changes?

:D

When in Cozumel last month,  CNSWife and I saw a million instances where three or four family members were cruising around on one scooter.  Let me relive a very fun part of this thread in my head.  Told her that four ppl was nothing and that Egyptians were pros at this, apparently.

i dont mind sad donkeys and fireworks (america!) but the rest of the stuff is super annoying.

And this one only has three guys, but gets bonus points for the odd things they're carrying. Plus: look close! Did you notice the driver was texting?

And an overview of the city to give some context on how dense it is and why traffic is a nightmare.

Finally, for traveling around the country, you can ride the rails, but caution is advised:

oh man, I wish there were pictures of MHundergrad roommate and I riding around Topeka on his scooter together. We once road from our house in the College Hill neighborhood out to Lake Sherwood while toting two thirty packs and two large pizzas.

You may or may not require context to enjoy this:

In short, there was a famous Gulfi singer who "donated" a song to Egypt's elections (Yay! More Gulf aid). It was basically a rip-off of Happy and the government played it nonstop on TV and had actual live DJs spinning that sweet beat outside polling stations during the elections.  Anyway, Egyptians started posted their own versions of people dancing to it (including an amazing one featuring Jean Claude Van Damme) and now they have an Obama version.

Holy crap.  If everyone would spread out a foot or two, the temps would drop like ten degrees.

Oh man, rode a sherat like this (I was inside), dude was hanging on outside for an hour drive.  Also driver was focusing most of his attention on his colleague behind him (who's only job was to collect the money and pass it forward).
