Has it seriously not hit the U.S. press yet that an American tourist was attacked with an American-supplied Apache?

The Mexican survivors returned home and are talking to the press, confirming that this wasn't a brief accident in the middle of the night. They were attacked during a lunch picnic in air strikes and ground ops that lasted at least three hours.

Meanwhile, Egypt's response has been to publish a letter in the Mexican press equating the incident to Mexico's drug violence and saying "we're still not sure if an error was made" while still not actually apologizing, then promising a transparent investigation before immediately issuing a gag order on the domestic AND international press, and finally publishing an even longer letter criticizing the New York Times for having the AUDACITY to suggest that, by dropping bombs and strafing foreign tourists and killing 12 and injuring 10 and then lying about it and LEAVING THE BODIES IN THE DESERT FOR OVER A DAY...Egypt might have mumped up.
This is probably the biggest scoop in gE history. (not gE'n).
I keep thinking that I will see a story on this at some point, and I don't recall any. I have a pretty loaded day (wtf..it's Friday?!?!), but I will try to search some sites.

The crap storm is coming. And it will be epic. The American's story could basically be turned into a movie. Congress (Leahy in particular) is going to strike down with great vengeance. Egypt's got a foot caught in the wood chipper and this is gonna get worse before it gets better.

Military assistance, international human rights violations, an intense scrutiny of all the other "terrorists" Egypt has killed in similar ops the past few years. All while the entire Egyptian Cabinet just resigned amid a corruption scandal one month before parliamentary elections that have been delayed for two years.

This will have major domestic and international repercussions. And the early signs indicate that the military (who are undoubtedly responsible but have also removed two presidents in the last four years) is not gonna let anyone point a finger at them without consequences.

NPR had a short story yesterday.   It was about 20sec long and noted 8 mx and 4 Egyptian victims.   Then, boom, story over.  it was covered like a complete accidental mixup and not one inkling of anything else to it.

This is going to give trump the W.

Yeah. This will end up featuring in the presidential campaign at some point, with people recalling several quotes from multiple candidates about how awesome Sisi is.

Egypt's robotic foreign minister, Sameh Shoukry (whom Kerry calls "Sammy" during their meetings) also had this amazing Ron Burgundy moment during his joint press conference with Mexico: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10156074952195472&id=808550471&_rdr

BTW, it's Hispanic heritage month. I'm trying to convince the Twitter guy to troll Egypt again.

So far, they've just restricted basically all travel outside greater Cairo area. Can't even drive to Alexandria anymore. Have to take a plane and locator device for any trip outside the suburbs.

The hashtag took off and now the MFA spox on Twitter has actually responded to the foreign journalist that first noted it. Somebody tackle this guy:

He also subtweeted her in Arabic (great @at_signal opportunity here):

(Rough translation: @(null): In response to a Washington Post reporter's sarcastic comments to say "end of text": not wrong, the goal is to separate the joint statement from Ministerial statement.

As long as we're piling on, this may be a good time to point out that Egypt's solution to avoiding future 3-hour airstrikes against picnicking tourists was to ban 4x4 vehicles in Sinai (on the opposite side of the country).

Their solution to the problem of tunnels along the gaza border? A giant fish farm.  I crap you not.

I promise you that once it's officially confirmed, it will hit the media back home. U.S. weapons attacking U.S. citizens in a country where military assistance is already controversial? There will be blood.

I would agree many other days out of the week.  The national media is too preoccupied with 'Pub debate BS and other related topics.  You really think any of the 'Pubs will talk about any kind of military issue that doesn't involve spending more money?  Any negative .mil related story is a no go for them.
