beems, from the hiring of Weis to the formation of his staff and roster, what have you seen as the negatives? We always hear the positives from you. Have you seen any negatives? Or has everything been positive since Weis came on board?
Negatives so far are mainly the losses of certain commitments and guys like Darrian Miller from the football program. You've got to expect attrition though when a new coach takes over. Weis could have handled the Berglund situation a little differently, perhaps, but I think that was another situation where Weis just wanted to hold a kid accountable for once in his life. You don't call the coaches 2 hours before a team meeting and tell them you're not coming, especially after all of the bullsh*t that KU has tolerated from that guy throughout his recruitment.
Obviously there are negatives when it comes to Weis as well. He did underachieve at Notre Dame. He isn't the best coach in the Big 12... not by any stretch of the imagination. All I'm saying is that the guy has a good approach to the way he runs a football program... very similar to the way Mangino did it. I don't like the fact that he set himself a deadline of five years and then he's done, but hey, he's going to make some WTF comments from time to time, and I can live with that. I prefer coaches who are brutally honest as opposed to guys who regurgitate coach speak 24/7.
I guess I don't see why K-State fans have to try to piss in our cheerios every single time we show a shred of optimism. Yeah, we're excited. We just got rid of the worst coach in the history of our football program and hired a guy who has tons of NFL experience and a guy who at least can fire up the fanbase. The 5-star transfers are exciting. The additions to the coaching staff are exciting. I'm not expecting KU to win the Big 12 or anything like that... I'm just hopeful that we can maybe get to where Iowa State's at with Paul Rhoads, and maybe sneak in a 9-10 win season with a little bit of luck. Sorry if that makes me a homer.
