honestly, eff those media guys.  who could KU have hired that was better?  Dykes would have probably taken the job but I don't think he would have been any better.  At least with weis they have a shot at something good.

"Crist is scheduled to graduate later this month and will have one year of eligibility remaining since he did not play his first year at Notre Dame. He can transfer to another school and play immediately so long as he enrolls in a graduate program that Notre Dame does not offer, per NCAA rules."


i think leach or malzahn would have been better. leach for sure, malzahn is an unproven head coach but he could be good. not bothered by the weis hire, jim leavitt as dc is (if its official yet?) be a good pickup though

With Mike Leach, the ideal candidate, gobbled up by Washington State, Troy Calhoun of Air Force seemed ideal. There were others out there as well. I'd have gone with re-hiring Mangino, but politics and perception usually trump hard facts. Like this one, KU fans: Your football job is an awful one. Take a winner when you can.

First of all, this thread is some of SD's finest work.  'Grats, SD. 

Secondly, like any head coaching hire, this could work great for them.  History would seem to indicate that it won't, but who rough ridin' knows.  Seems to me that Weiss probably saw the writing on the wall and that Florida wasn't going to stand for the 102nd rated offense in the nation very much longer.  He could stay there and try to turn things around and not get fired after next year, or he could capitalize on his success at KC that is fresh in the minds of people in this area.  If he got fired after next year, he'd have 2 years of shitty college coordinating on his resume (to go along with his rapid decline at ND) and be desperately lobbying for a job.  If he goes now, he gets a fresh new fat contract and can probably push for a hefty buyout.  If he's successful, he can jump at the first chance he gets.  If he fails, at least he got one last big contract.  Nobody else was going to touch him anyway.

Whatever the result, it's gonna be fun as eff to watch.  I live in Lawrence, so I'll make sure and report on any noteworthy Weiss sitings.

Charlie Weis: This man is not a strong recruiter, and going to Kansas doesn't help. He's an NFL mind, not a collegiate one. He's a very successful NFL coordinator and a failed college coach.

Looking at it with perspective, what Weis did or did not do at ND really has no bearing on his potential at Kansas. Nobody wins at ND.  Kelley is doing worse than Weis did.
