That means they'd be paying a football coach $3.75 million over the next three years, plus incentives, when you factor in Gill's salary that they'll still be paying on.

I'm sorry, but I don't think they have the cash for that right now.

Have you factored in life insurance policy payouts into the equation?

I think he must be very toxic/not thought of highly by admin because he makes it clear every day on his radio show that he will take any job thrown at him.

KU supposedly got an athletic "gift" around 4 mil i believe at the end of last week.  So only 2 million.

This interview is from the summer.

Quote
Where would he coach if he could, carte blanche, pick a school? He wants a place with good tradition and the chance to compete for titles, but a place with some challenges and history of recent struggle, some place like UCLA or North Carolina. The nice thing about talking to Leach is how you can throw the e-brake and turn the car around in conversation mid-stream without worrying about losing him, and I do this by wondering out loud about how aberrant the success of a place like Virginia Tech was, a school without an easy local recruiting gold mine to sit on, a place sort of thrown out in the hills with no major city near it.

He nods.

"I think we were almost there in Lubbock. Other schools like Texas and Oklahoma are getting 23 draft picks in five years, and we're getting nine. They turn out draft picks all the time there, and we were getting there. We could have had something like Virginia Tech in Lubbock, I think.

Still haven't heard a good reason why Mike Leach won't be the next head coach at KU (possibly this tuesday or wednesdy).  The only reason I would love to see it happen so Beems can come back to this thread and just destroy most of you.

ku fired a coach two years ago for being abusive to players and then now they are going to hire a coach that was fired for the same exact reason around the same exact time? it'd be like some game of musical abusive coaching chairs or something. maybe tech could then hire leavitt and south florida could hire mangino. i'm not saying ku shouldn't, but that's at least a good reason why it might not happen.

perkins fired him, not zulu.

I have to wonder if Perkins really did want to fire him, and knowing he was on his way out hired Gill to burn the place down.
RIP Fatty

It's either Leach or the rest of last night's family is coming back from vacation.  Lawrence Muni can only handle so many arriving passengers in one day.

the other day on his radio show he was talking about wanting a shot at the Central Florida job for eff sakes.  It is a great situation for both Leach and KU because both are desperate and have no other options.

This.  The only way that Leach goes somewhere else is if some other/better desperate school comes calling.  I mean, Huggins would have gone to MU but they didn’t want to touch him.  And I really haven’t heard much from anyone else besides Wazzu.  I mean, Wazzu vs. KU?  I’d take KU in a littlejay heartbeat.  It’s closing time, ku, take her home.

Leach on the  Mangino "witch hunt"
Leach summarized the matter as follows: "The mean man told some player something they didn't want to hear. Well, there's a mean man in Lubbock who tells players what they don't want to hear. That's just part of it."

Pretty sure his comment was just a few weeks, if not days, before the Adam James thing broke.

same school chancellor though and i still have to think there is a reason that no school has hired leach, mangino or leavitt. i mean just think about that. all really good coaches and none of the three has coached in college since. maybe liability issues or something, i don't know. i do agree that i can't imagine leach turning them down. the guy would be willing to coach anywhere. first school to offer gets him. he's desparate.

I don't think it has anything whatsoever to do with Leach wanting one job over another at this point.  He just wants a job.

Serious ?: Does he represent himself, or does he have an agent (that he actually listens to)?

If so, I could easily see an agent going, "Whoa, whoa...Mike.  Let me talk to a couple of schools first before you go accepting an offer from a school that plays football in a track stadium."

I mean, it may not ultimately stop him from going to KU, but it may prevent the immediate hiring of Leach.

Also, and I don't want to sound all  :opcat: here, but does anyone think that KU won't follow the BCA hiring protocol with BGL at the helm?  Not  :opcat:, but a serious question.

They will probably "attempt" to interview Dennis Green for the position.
