So, it is already guaranteed that Currie has either cost us:
a) Frank Martin - Frank leaves, speaks for itself.
b) Hundreds of thousands of dollars a year - What could we have locked Frank up for at the end of last season? Beginning of this season? When he slapped Merys? We aren't made of money you dumbf^ck!
Point b is pretty meh.
Could've saved us some, but having him signed up below market value means very little, he could still leave for more money. Probably just the glass is half full in me, but getting Frank to sign at closer to his real market value after he's proven himself may give a slight chance he intends to stay at K-State longer. Very slight, but still.
I agree if Currie had raised Frank's salary after last year, we still would need to raise it again this year, because Frank raised his value again. (Unless we had boosted it to like $1.5m after last season, which would've been stupid also.) I'm pretty sure Currie saved KSU money by having Frank work this year for his present salary.
EDIT: This only really matters if Currie successfully signs Frank to a new contract. Obviously if we lose Frank as coach, that's very problematic for KSU's finances...
This is exactly what happened in the situation with Huggins and Weiser.
I don't see a parallel at all. Just an IMO, but I think Huggins would've left for his alma mater unless we offered him a ridiculous above-market-value salary.
