I used to think nothing could top living in NYC. Now I think nothing could top living in the suburbs in the Midwest.

Great place to visit but I couldn’t live there. Although talking to my NY work colleagues seems like the biggest gripes are prices, taxes, tiny expensive living spaces, and weather. So only the last one would be a new problem for someone accustomed to living in the Bay Area.

The weather/winters in NYC aren't that bad. If anything, at least in "the city," the height of the summer is worse.

Park Slope would probably be the easiest transition from Bay Area, based on my narrow understanding of what life in the bay area is like.

my work would be split between Industry City and Financial District which also makes Park Slope seem ideal. I'm worried it's too yuppie-y for me but who knows!

rusty, my quick zillow peruse tells me you can get plenty of place for your family in park slope for ~$2m right now. NYC is a buyers market and you, bud, are a buyer. go get'em.

LMAO

No lie a Bay Area friend basically told me the same thing about $2 million steals in Brooklyn.

For the rental market though I think Brooklyn had been a lot more stable than Manhattan

You should live in Rego Park.  That's where they live on King Of Queens.
