also, my recommendo is la bernadin.  can't get in?  try dirty french and of course the polo bar (because duh)

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

Thoughts on any of these?
- Employees Only been there for drinks only
- 1 if by land, 2 if by sea
- Marea fabulous seafood, priced well for what you get
- Alder I wasn't wowed, but went with a vegetarian; I remember thinking the drinks were the best part
- Per Se (I can't pull the trigger on this one I don't think)
- White Horse Tavern good burger & fries, better when you can sit outside
- The Smith solid food; good vibe; nothing special
- Professor Thom's ? delicious nachos
- Grand Central Oyster Bar (was being renovated last visit) good seafood; cool Mad Men-type atmosphere, or used to be

Heard great things about Per Se and 1 If By Land (the latter of which is supposed to be the most romantic dinner place in NYC). A very good not-too-fancy seafood place is L&W Oyster, also Fishtail by David Burke. Folks seem to love Charlie Bird, but I was handicapped again by going with a vegetarian.

Thanks for the tips....I'm booked at Marea so that's a for sure.  Also booked at Barbounia for a boozy brunch.

I'd probably describe moving to Baghdad as terrifying.

Baghdad vs Salina would take some soul searching debate to decide.

I think "terrify" is a bit strong, even for clams to salina. Or maybe you guys don't know what terrify means?

yes i am terrified of the subway.  I downloaded the hopstop app and even with that I still managed to miss my connection or screw something up pretty much every time I tried to get anywhere.  I'll be living in Brooklyn, (bedstuy) and working in the financial district.

I'm happy that BigAppleCat's financial woes are about to disappear. You ever get that figured out, Hub?

Also, if you're the adventurous type w/ your eating, spend a few hours in Jackson Heights and eat around the world.

I would do Salina before Baghdad for a place to live. Would visit Baghdad first if vacation was the thought

Anyone been to ASSSSCAT 3000 at UCB, specifically the free show?

The ticketed show was sold out before this trip was planned. I'm wondering how early you need to line up to get a ticket.

I'm about to encourage you morons to not go to rough ridin' ramen places as grown ups. Maybe you can save your pennies and go to a spaghetti w/ ragu sauce restaurant instead.

Ha! Last time I was in New York my traveling party just HAD to go to a trendy Ramen place and eff those places. This particular one ran their music off an ipad but set the ipad next to a record spinning on a turntable with no needle. eff YOU, RAMEN PLACE.

My full review of my last visit to NYC: bland boring trendy restaurants full of boring people having holiday parties and mountains of trash everywhere. And also the shitty Ramen place.
