Pro tip: make sure to check your airline carriers policy on bikes and weight limits for business class. I booked separate flights on Air Canada and was able to place bids for an upgrade to business class. It ended up costing me pretty much the same amount to sit in business class since the weight limit was higher and more checked bags were allowed as it would have cost me to sit with the poors and pay extra to check my bike bag.

I rented a dakine bike bag for $180, barely fit my size L kona unit, took out the pedals to squeeze under 50 lbs, and checked it for free on Delta since I have a delta cc. This is the way

Any electric bike owners?  I am contemplating getting one that could work on either easy mountain bike trails or street riding.  Thinking of maybe a fat tire Rad power or Aventure, simply because those are lower cost and pretty good reviews.

Anyone done the research?
I was talking to my neighbor last night. He has a Quietkat e-bike that he rides to work. It has huge tires - like what they put on downhill mountain bikes. The main reason he has this ebike is to check his trail cams because he is a fanatical bowhunter and the bike leaves very little scent to put off deer. Looks like a very cool/fun setup.

Yeah, I want a fat tire one for riding gravel roads quickly.

Had a nice little ride in the mountains inbetween lighting strikes the other week.

Can confirm that asava wore flip flops like 24/7 as an undergrad KSU wildcat so the picture of him wearing flip flops and drinking coffee confirms that nothing has changed

They aren't flip flops, but they definitely are sandals. Props to Mocat for crushing basically 3k this year!

Got some studded tires instead of a fat bike. Pretty fun. On the packed frozen stuff they grip amazingly well, just gotta take it easy as things start to melt

That sounds awesome. Enjoy.

How close to the trail are the camping sites that you plan to use?

Hey guys, thanks for keeping me inspired for a return to cycling.  The conquests of this thread are great motivators.  I have long since planned my return and think it has finally come.  But I think I am going gravel.  And with that in mind, any of you ever ridden the Belgian Waffle Ride in Lawerence?  It is in October and is basically a 200k with about 8,000’ of elevation gain.

I set up my trainer today with the goal of logging at least an hour a day for the next 2 months with most likely some longer sessions on weekends.  If I hit my training goals, I will be buying a gravel bike on July 1st and signing up for the ride.  Maybe I will see some of you in Lawrence in the fall.

gravel bikes are the best. also the roads are generally garbage where i live with debris and broken glass, etc, so my gravel bike with tubeless tires is kind of my DD. what bikes are on your list?
i've never done the belgian waffle but i've heard it's a great event. that elev gain is real
