The new job requires that I spend next spring studying at the University of Virginia School of Law.   

Watch out for the secret societies.  You can't swing a dead cat there without hitting one.

That's very interesting because a stoic, matter-of-fact coworker described his experience in Charlottesville as "magical."

Charlottesville is great. It's like Manhattan except pretty much better across the board. Unfortunately UVA is kinda known for having the most douches per capita, but the law school is not as bad.

I applied for a job (which didn't involve studying law at UVA) and they had me take a roughly hour-long standardized test (complete with algebra and analogies) and a personality profile thing before the initial interview.

Is this a thing? Seems really weird to me.

Step 3: Be approached by a very nicely dressed woman in her 50s after the meeting.
Step 4: Have a conversation about what she does for a living and what she is looking for.

Step 6: Receive a business card and be told to give them a call.

it wasn't that you were well dressed and spoken, it also shows a certain level of maturity and a lot of hard work to be where you both were.  whatever you've both been through will undoubtedly be harder than any work she may offer you and it shows that you potentially are up to the task.  she knows these things.

It is also a national company with plenty of opportunity for advancement. I'm fairly excited about the opportunity.

yes, my recent job dalliance involved about 6 hours of online testing and full psych phone convo
