i couldn't imagine doing all that period

I was surprised.  I've never worked for a large corporation, so I thought that the local company culture was still going to be small timey, but the $2B ownership company has it's fingers in everything the $50mil company does.   Very disappointing.   The above process took about 6 weeks to get through by the way to the point I received the offer, and I was the sole candidate.

I posted my resume for review on a message board for people in my industry and the concensus was it's "all over the place" and that I don't sell myself. Probably fair criticism, but no one would offer advice on how to improve it so now I'm just like  :dunno:

I did a video interview a couple weeks ago.  Their camera fell off the wall so I was staring at the floor for a couple minutes.  Back in college looking for my first job out of school I did a phone interview with a company in Atlanta.  They allowed dogs in the office apparently and every 20 seconds a dog would start barking.

I've accepted a position in Topeka and am moving my family back to Kansas in a few weeks.  Anything good going on in Topeka?

move them to MHK, and commute.  that is, if you love them.

Don't live in Topeka.  Lawrence or MHK.

Living outside of Shawnee county isn't an option for us unfortunately or a commute would be a possibility. (even though I despise driving).  I am excited to take the oldest boy to his first cats game though. (and my first in 4 years)

Topeka is fine. You just have to pick a nice neighborhood. I'd suggest the west side. That's where I live and just stay on Wanamaker and use the interstate.

I lived near campus for a couple years and that was fine as I just worked close by was in campus a lot of the time. It wasn't a great place to live though. Hearing gunshots fairly regularly and being told to stay out of certain neighborhoods after dark because I was white.

The city is what you wake it though. Lacks a lot of the youthful feeling of MHK and Lawrence. But there are good parts and it's all good.

Payless tried to recruit me that direction a couple of years ago. They said they'd help with placement inside "45 miles". Somehow that ended up being Tonganoxie as the closest to KC and my biggest fear in life is dying from a Tornado, so I had to pass. I would suggest Lawrence.
