i have never had multiple rounds of a job interview. in fact, the two jobs ive had have offered me the job on the spot. maybe i am a stud?

The last time my employment situation changed, the OPS director at the time sent me a text message and asked if I wanted to come work for him. I did. Is that an interview?

Even twice doesn't make sense for on site.  If you want to hit them with multiple phone rounds so be it.

Did they bring you in 5 separate times?  Or did you talk to 3 one time and 2 the next?  I would view the first option as extremely disrespectful.
2 phone interview and then I came in 3 separate times.

They travel a lot, so it was hard to have them all in the office at the same time.

The idea that having to go through a ton of interviews adds legitimacy to a position or company is laughable.

I agree. Just shows lots of layers of redundancy
When I interviewed fifteen years ago for the management position I am accepted and am still with, I had to go through two interviews. In the same time period I interviewed with another organization as well. With that group, and all in the same day, I interviewed with three different teams within the organization. On the way home I was called and offered an interview with the board of directors the following week. They were flying me out there, so I thought that might be a good opportunity. However, before that, I was offered my current position. So I declined the final interview.
I don't mind interviewing, and while I considered myself ready for the position I had no previous management experience.

If you're in for a second time, you're their guy. They just want each side to get a final look before deciding. If I know they're that serious, I'd love the opportunity to be more careful about evaluating the workplace than I was when I was there for my interview.

There are also situations in which it makes more sense not to do things on site for every candidate that comes in for one interview. Like take a tour or speak with many potential coworkers face to face. If there are six interviewees, and one tour/meet and greet lasts 90 minutes, you save a lot of time by only doing that for the candidate you want to offer.

At my last job I had to come in three times.  The third was to meet one specific person that was unexpectedly absent from interview #2.  Anyway, it was annoying as eff, but I would do it again in a heartbeat to go back to that company the way it was in 2006.

Increasing your network and contacts within your field (and out, as well) can be a benefit. I have been asked situation advice, and that just increases my contribution among same-position peers. Just welcome the conversation, let them know where you stand with your current position satisfaction, and add some positive professional contacts to your base.

One of the guys wants to get a group of the same profession together and network for ideas/suggestions. I'm obviously a bit weary of it, but it sounds like a great idea.

Are these people doing the same job as you or recruiters trying to recruit you? (You are a recruiter, but you don't recruit recruiters, right?)

Anyways, I always have a bunch of recruiters trying to connect with me on LinkedIn and I am not sure whether to accept them or not.
