What is your form of payment for the 32 cents?

There’s a 8” x 8” x 8” decorative bucket in our closet full of change. 4 years ago when I stopped drinking pop it was full. Now it’s probably 1/3 full.

I go in QT 2-3 times a day in the summer for a large ice water. $0.32. I’ll use the same cup a few times and the refills are free. In/out in 60-90 seconds.

why don't you just use the sink and ice from home

yes this was truly one of the most bizarre gas station purchases I've heard of. I guess it's not really much weirder than a water bottle when you think about it, but still.

I start with ice/water from home. I drink a lot of water. I always have a 32oz foam cup in my hand. There’s a QT 1/2 mile from my work. I’ll hit it to refill the ice at lunch & when I leave for work. We have a 100,000 sqft warehouse, so once or twice a week I’ll set it down & lose it, so I’ll have to go get a new one. I’ll usually refill once or twice a day on the weekend while I’m out. This last Sunday I went to 5 or 6 stores & I went in QT for water 3 times at least, maybe 4.

this is the most chaotic thing I've read in awhile

I’ve done the Yeti/other brands that hold ice longer. But they all rust quickly or I lose them.

There’s more to it. I get kidney stones, I’m down one of my two major saliva glands & I fidget with stuff.  The first two items resulted in a water cup becoming my fidget thing. Prior to 4 years ago I almost never drank water. I chug it now, but I need it ice cold.

At least bottled water comes from somewhere else. The ice water from the local gas station comes from the same place the ice water at his house comes from.

The tap water is better for you and the environment than the bottled, though.

I have a friend who fills up with gas every morning and has a 15 mile round trip commute?  Doesn't go in for a drink.  Spends like $1.25 or whatever.  I find that entirely more insane than Hamburglar.

Is it really free though or does he just assume it is and QT people are just nice?

It’s free. I always go to the counter with the change in my hand ready to pay just in case they still want to charge for a refill & I can keep moving.

I’ve never had a hydroflask. Sounds like a good idea for a Christmas list.

Wear a hiking backpack, maybe one that’s also a cooler, with the plastic tube straw.

Hey guys, be right back, gonna refill my water.

Oh cool. Can you grab me a napkin while you’re in the kitchen?

Oh I’m not going to the kitchen. I’m going to use a styrofoam cup and drive to quick trip. I’ll park my car, lock it, go inside and fill up the foam cup with ice water. Then I’ll drive back to work. I lose my cup a lot so i just grab another styrofoam cup. I plan on doing this several times today because every yeti i own is too rusted. Also i lost my yet, but i wasn’t sad because i was drinking rust.

This is the weirdest water drinking story I have ever heard in my entire life. I feel like I could revolutionize burglars water drinking if I was allowed to follow him around for one week. Like it just doesn’t make a ton of sense.

There are a QT/KnG/Casey's in my town near KC.

RANKING
1. KnG -- Best coffee of the three,  free ice water, randomly not open at 5:30 when I go to work, not especially nice building.
2. QT -- probably the best infrastructure but it's in a part of town I don't frequent.
3. Casey's -- Dirty AF, free air no longer free, pizza ok in a pinch, has big giant Space Camper singles.

All in all, they are all sub par.

We don’t have an ice maker at work. I didn’t think spending 4 minutes a day stopping at QTs I’m already driving by to get ice would make you all think I’m crazy.

I buy gallon jugs of water at Walmart and carry one into work every 2-3 days. It doesn't seem all that different from what I do.

Alternatively, maybe one of those rolling standup IV’s pumping water directly in him consistently. Plus he’d always have a hand on it to roll it with him as to the fidgeting.
