Does anyone else go to QuikTrip daily? Im in love. 59 cent 32oz drinks. GREAT DEAL.
-
Would buy stock on IPO.
-
Not daily but I pretty much always get gas there and usually grab a soda while I'm there. Summer time prices kinda suck though because there is always a crap ton of scrubby people around the soda machines. Yuck.
-
The ONE thing that I hate about them, they are almost always using 10% ethanol blend.
-
One of the best restaurants in KC. Would work there if they would match my salary. You cant slap the smile of their workers. Chicken taquitos :runaway:

yeah. all of this and the monty jack taquitos.
-
Hot dogs.
-
I do enjoy the occasional Black Cherry smoothie from QT. :lick:
-
New M&M cookies
Their roller snacks are so bad, but so good.
-
I had (about) a 3 month love affair with their italian subs. Kinda glad I'm past all that though.
-

Love the principal behind ethanol, but not the whole "making bacon cost more" thing.
-
Would buy stock on IPO.
Absolutely terrible idea. An IPO would absolutely ruin QT.
-
I go twice, 3 times a day sometimes. I've always said that opening a QT in manhattan would be an easy million. eff dara's.

I used to play for KC Pump N' Dump.

Some MHK elites once told me dara's was doing everything they could to stop QT from coming to Manhattan.
Question is IF QT came to Manhattan where would they set up shop? Would love to see one it the ville but I dont think there is enough space.

I think it would be on Tuttle Creek Blvd.

They should take over the space at Anderson and 11th Street. By that Kinkos. But they'll probably have to demolish Kinkos. And I'm okay with that.

Knock down and rebuild the Dara's going out of town on 177. Every college student coming and going would hit it, most would still go there on the reg anyways for their awesome snacks. It would probably be the world's busiest QT on gamedays.

From what I've heard, QT has some corporate rule that says every location must be within X miles of one of their distribution centers. I imagine MHK falls out of range.

That's the exact same reasoning I've heard about why Kansas City doesn't have In n Out burger but Dallas does.

Would make sense. QT supposedly makes/delivers their own food the same day.
-
Well, this is settled.
/thread
-
Not buying it. QT has stores in Tucson, which is nearly the same distance from PHX as MHK is from KC.

That doesn't prove anything. Distributor could be located somewhere between the two. Also, Tucson is a far bigger city than Manhattan and might have a distributor of its own.
-
" QT operates distribution centers in the Kansas City, Phoenix, and Atlanta metropolitan areas, with a new center opening in Dallas in the near future. These warehouses store and ship 70% of the products sold in our stores."
-
I love a QT donut after a night of PAKing.
-
Whenever I want to work up a good case of the farts, I get something at QuikTrip. Not joking. Like going on a road trip with bros, I grab some taquitos or those processed buffalo chicken tubular things, and I'm torturing my travel partners from here to Vegas.
-
Those buffalo chicken things are tasty, yet really weird.
-
This thread made me have a dream last night in which I robbed a QT. Not for money, but for the snacks. In my dream it had an entire chinese buffet, so I had a ton of that, plus some huge taquitos and donuts.

Woke up smiling, I bet.

I talked to my QT worker friend. She knows super insidery stuff (I knew about the breakfast taquitos and potato things months in advance, but both ended up :barf:) cause she's in the corporate training program (that's another thing I learned, all QT employees, even the soon-to-be corporates have to spend 2 years in a store).
Anyways, she said that opening QTs is all about getting good deals on land to build their stores. So blame whoever is pricing the land out there, also said she wouldn't be surprised if Dara's had something to do with it.

Yes, Manhattan, KS, (like other towns) has a main chain of convenience stores (Dara's) and that chain does whatever they can (usually get the city to not allow QT to build in their town.) St. Joseph, Missouri does the same thing, only their convenience store is Speedy's.
-
the QT inside the Sprint Center is a real DITR.

Indeed, $1.00 frozen drinks, can't beat that for concession fare.
-
I only go inside gas stations on roadies.

I could see that, but they have stores in StL and Omaha, which are both farther from KC than MHK
I still blame Dara's

The only reason Dallas has In N Out now is because they decided they wanted to expand to Texas so they opened a new distributor there. I'm from California so In N Out is a pretty big deal to me. I'm torn between deciding whether I want them to expand across the whole country just so I can be guaranteed to be able to eat it anywhere and so others will know the joy of In N Out or if I want to stay smaller and more regional so it is more exclusive.

There's a coffee deal inside and like 50 frozen drink dispensers... Also, patio seating outside... I stop by one a few times per week but have yet to actually use any of the additional stuff available.

they're incredible. could take a classy lady there on a date.
love qt, I never fill up anywhere else. will drive miles out of my way to go to a qt vs some other old gas station.
-
Many of us in MHK would welcome a multiple QT presence here. The local convenience stores are vanilla businesses at best, nothing at all to be excited about. But the "next generation" QT's? There's something we can get behind.

From what I understand, all QTs built from now on will be the NG ones, which In guess makes sense.
-
New one being built like a quarter mile from my work. 119th and Lennox. Can. Not. Wait.
-
BTW, I was totally kidding about the frozen drink things. There's a bunch but not 50.
-
How great would it be to get an emaw and QT insider to post here? Ima try at least.

Settled. Carnes is a bot
-
you are obsessing over a gas station.
-
I'm never more than a mile away from a QT. Also, we have a card for our grocery store that every $50 we spend is 5 cents off per gallon the next time we fill up at QT.

Similar situation for the Dillons here. The discount works at the Dillons gas stations and the Kwik Shops. Most Kwik Shops are pretty decent but some are even better than QT's. The one in Goddard is like a mini Dillons- deli, fried chicken, cheap milk, etc.

some of the kwik shops have a pharmacy. That's pretty boss for a gas station imo.

yeah that kwik shop is basically the crown jewel of the town of goddard, ks
-
The Dillon's discount here in MHK is pretty good...60 cents/gallon at times, and they max out at $1/gallon. So, Mrs. Bones and I take our respective vehicles to the Dillon's pumps at the same time. Because the discount only works with one pump charge, I gas my SUV first, then hand the nozzle off to her and she fills her car. Dillon's is good with this and approves it. We save a lot of $.

This QT to Manhattan debate would be settled with a simple trip to their website or Wikipedia. They are only in large metro areas.

Just down the road (south) of the new high school. Think it's like 167th street? I haven't been yet but JTbro lives off of 135th so he's pretty excited to have one down the road. Guess it's not real big but at least the rural location keeps a segment of the Walmart trash out...
-
If I ever move out of Manhattan, the fact that it doesn't have a QT will play a major part.
-
They're building a new one within walking distance from EuroMom's house at 87th and Farley in Overland Park. You can practically see the next closest QT from that corner.

New QT lunch Pak coming this spring.

I've heard they are going to demo the old Kansas Blue Print building in Wichita and build another nextgen QT there.
-
What do you guys mean by "next gen" QTs? Just the ones with the kitchens?
They are quite a bit bigger than the older stores that are around Wichita. I think that one of the things they did in the lay out was to make sure there was room for liquor when that law changes. They are also a lot more open inside the store with a patio area outside (mentioned earlier). The nextgen label is just what it was called by the GC when I was bidding on the last one in Wichita.

OK, I was just curious if they were trying out something new in Wichita. We've had the QT kitchens here for awhile, but I can only think of one that has a patio.
-
The first one that was built in Wichita is at Hillside and Orme just south of Kellogg. If you use google earth, you can see site demo and clearing in progress and get an overall feel for the size of the site.

I saw a development company sign go up sometime this summer, so I did a Google search and found a City of Olathe meeting transcript of QT proposing the idea. I had been waiting since then to see them start working. I was unreasonably excited when I saw them start moving dirt that fateful day in December.

Yeah, but alot of them get benefits, bonuses, and a pretty good tuition reimbursment program, even for clerks. A guy I worked with's daughter works there while she was in college. Said she worked an average of 40 hours per week, got in on a college/group insurance plan that QT put money in for her, got $4,000 in tuition reimbursment, and claimed $37,000 on her tax return for 2011.

QT is basically one of the best restaurants in town that happens to sell gasoline.
Best of the best:
Chicken Taquito
Chocolate Long John
Southwest Chicken Wrap
Strawberry Fanta
Apple slices and cheese package
Where they mumped up was trying to get into the Take & Bake pizza game. Their pizza is complete crap.

Yeah, I've always heard that. GlassDoor isn't 100% accurate either so could be higher. But they're pretty well-known for treating their employees very well. They've been in the black for a long time too.
Basically one of my favorite companies and I'm ludicrously loyal to them as a consumer.

Yeah, I've always heard that. GlassDoor isn't 100% accurate either so could be higher. But they're pretty well-known for treating their employees very well. They've been in the black for a long time too.
Basically one of my favorite companies and I'm ludicrously loyal to them as a consumer.
The QT episode of Undercover Boss was a tearjerker.
-
The one downside of QT is how you never know if their gas (KS side) is 10% ethanol or not. I really hate that. I don't generally buy their gas but still go in quite a bit.

Doesn't the pump say if there is an ethanol blend?

They just have a sticker there all the time saying it could contain up to 10%. I don't think they add/remove sticker based on what their pumping at any given time.

I did once, when I learned my vehicle could take e85.

E10 is completely safe, reduces emissions, is cheaper, and adds 2–3 octane to the blend. Florida even mandates its use. I'm not sure what then downside is...

10 percent worse gas mileage.

When you get the stuff that isn't 10% its noticeably different, much better mileage. Ethanol is a racket. In they call the cheap shitty ethanol "Super Unleaded" and its actually cheaper than regular unleaded. Some Casey's General Stores in Kansas also try to run this bullshit, Casey's in Maize comes to mind. All of the QTs in Kansas use the garbage 10%. If fairly certain the state incentives gas stations for selling shitty 10% ethanol.
-
10 percent worse gas mileage.
If it's a full 10% ethanol, it's only a 3-4% difference in MPGs. But it's also cheaper, so...

Its more prevalent here but apparently very prevalent in Florida as well. I don't care about the E10 stuff, it's so common. Don't use E85 though, unless it's cheap enough to balance out the reduced mileage.
-
My vehicle gets 10 percent worse gas mileage. YMMV.

i'm all for finding creative ways to not burn fossil fuels. not a big fan of seeing us sucking down our already overstressed aquifers to inefficiently grow a bunch of plants where they aren't supposed to grow. ethanol is great if there happens to be some organic material we have that can be produced efficiently and not be a net drain, but corn in the US is not the same as sugarcane in brazil
-

Oh. My. God.
The emissions are only better at the vehicular level, not close if you include production. Also, as mentioned, it gets worse gas mileage. Also, it is really really awful.
Yes using it in your car has slightly lower emissions, is safe, and yes it is subsidized to the point that it is about the same cost as gasoline (also subsidized, I know), but the production of ethanol for this is a terrible misuse of resources. None of the current research seems to support ethanol as a sustainable, reusable fuel.

Great. You guys write your congressmen, call Al Gore, hug a tree, whatever. I'll just continue to fill my car with whatever comes out of the pumps at QT. (Or whatever gas station.)

Still bummed that MHK doesn't have a QT. Guess I'm destined to that, while most of my fellow MHKers are bummed about no Red Lobster. Don't know what's worse.

red lobster sucks, so obvs answer is QT. the gas stations in this town are a bore.

Regardless of your feelings for Red Lobster, it would be a huge boon to recruiting. Not a joke.

Red lobster is the only restaurant to eff up the pre-meal bread, and that is why it sucks.

I love Red Lobster. It's not as good as other seafood places, but in Kansas, it's pretty much all you can hope for.

Yes that's good for sure. It burns cleaner and over the long haul will keep your engine in better shape. Phillips 66/ConocoPhillips is also top tier and at least in KS is usually not 10% ethanol. There's one or two other top-tier brands (Exxon?? Shell?? BP??) but I can't remember who they are.
-
It all comes from the same place. The real factor is how fast the gas station empties it's tanks. The longer fuel sits the more it will degrade and bacterial growth can occur which can plug filters and ruin injector.

hey guys, you aren't going to have a better Red Lobster experience close to the ocean.
I agree, but if I were near the ocean there would be a lot of seafood options that are better than Red Lobster. For seafood in the midwest, other than a few diamonds in the rough, Red Lobster is usually about as good as it gets.

Just look at the seafood restaurants per capita on the coast compared to the midwest, which really only has Red Lobster. If your coastal city doesn't have a seafood place that is better than Red Lobster, I would say it's probably an anomaly.

True, if all you want is stuff that's locally available. Japan has probably the best seafood places in the world, how much is caught locally?

yeah, and those places are extremely rare and have very limited menus. In SF there just aren't many good locally caught fish.

They really are. It's amazing how much better they are than any other gas station anywhere. In Phoenix I stopped at a Kwik Stop or Circle K or something that had a "beer cave" that seemed kind of cool, even if it was totally white trashy. But it still had some snarly fat ugly employees and general messiness that you just don't see at QT.

mods, can you embed this thread inside the white midwesterny things thread

went to the next gen one over at college and pflumm. they have a cherry limeade flavored freezoni now I guess? was amazing.

Guys I went. Have to be honest here, kinda freaked out with the new layout.
So there's like a section with a barrista now? What happens over there? How is it different from pouring my own coffee? Do I have to tip?
Do they sell beer? Maybe I missed it.
Also, the tension on the entrance/exit door is pretty stiff. Not like the older QT's.
-
It's in Kansas, so I wouldn't have even noticed if there were beer there.
And the extra tension on the doors is to keep out the puds.
-
Where is the new one you guys are talking about?

Man was that ELITE! I've been going to the Hy-Vee across the street for my late afternoon coffee/snack but no more.
A kiosk to order a fresh baked pretzel?!? A soda fountain of nothing but different tea options???!?!? A topping bar for their hot dogs?!?!?! YES PLEASE
My favorite part has got to be the fact they put a lotto checker machine in the back corner of the store to keep the poors from clogging up the counter checking their tickets.

Thank you so much for posting this ben ji! It looks awesome! I would gain at least 2 to 5 pounds in a month due to the pretzel kiosk.

The year was 2008, the summer of love. I had just graduated High School.
I got into some legal trouble at the beginning of the Summer (before I had a job), and so my parents were on my ass about getting a job immediately. I struck out on my first round of applications so I decided to work for a warehouse temp agency. I got hired immediately and began working in a telecom warehouse that was moving from shawnee mission to southern olathe. My job there consisted of driving a forklift and shipping the entire contents of a warehouse. That lasted about a month, and then i was transferred to Ingersol Rand, a giant warehouse just south of 119th and Renner (just west of the Benchmark building).
I began work every day at 6 am. My job there consisted of taking doorknobs out of one kind of box and putting them in different, newer looking boxes. I also assembled doorknobs and locks and put them into boxes. I did that for about a month and a half, then it was off to MHK.
It was a great experience for an 18 year old who needed a kick in the ass.
-
Guys, QuikTrip parking lots are maybe the most dangerous places on the face of the earth. I am nearly a victim of vehicular homicide every single time I go there, but I still keep going a bunch. I am a LOT like the guy in the Hurt Locker who just keeps going back into the crap.

Wuuuuuut?????? Just the super new ones? I love me a good pretzel.

Yep, only at the super 21st century QTs .
The small ones don't have the middle kitchen. Good news though, QT is starting to convert all their stores into the 21st century ones. There's another going up at 37th and rock..
Central Market Dillons down the street too.
My side of town is booming.

Yeah, those pretzels are excellent.
The new QT by my place has personal pan pizzas for $5, haven't had one yet. They also do slices, but hyvee gas station down the road has $1 slices so I'm conflicted

This may have already been mentioned in this thread but my favorite pre-duckhunt meal is a couple of quick trip spicy chicken sandwiches with a 32oz. cup of Rooster Booster (original). There isn't anything much better than that when you're up and sober at 4:30 in the morning

I'm never up at 4:30 in the morning. Even if I was, I might not be sober, so I'd likely need a lot of Rooster Booster. Can it be injected?
-
4:30 am is the absolute best time to be outside. the air has this great smell to it, and it's about as quiet as you can get in a city.

Confirming QT pretzels are top class.
They were also passing out samples of some beef flatbread thing that is worth your time.

Never really understood the flatbread thing. I guess I like pitas...

Had a free sample of their bacon grilled cheese. Pretty meh
They have egg rolls now (roller grill). Those were much better.

I have not set foot in a QT in over a year. :sdeek:
That is remarkable if you are metro-based. There is a QT less than a minute from both my office and home. So if I go like 2 days without a visit it's a miracle.

The cinnamon pretzels are just godlike.

QT and whataburger should both be headed to Denver with the whole state tripping on pot now
-
So QT has an app now. If you download it you get a free Big Q drink. They are also doing a 12 days of Christmas thingy. Today you get a free breakfast sando :surprised:
-
Can anyone vouch for QT's ice cream?
I had a bunch of Twisters this summer when they had every size on sale for $1.99
I would say they are comparable to McFlurries. But while McD's only does M&M and Oreo, QT also offeres Reese's pieces and Butterfinger. More variety =
-
One thing I noticed, QT does a good job of catering to their individual micromarkets. For example, at this one KCK QT I hit, there are like 4 bays of donuts and stuff, and they are mostly cleared out by 8AM. But at another one I noticed it was one lonely bay and hardly touched at 8AM.
-
OT, but husband of one of my wife's HS friends started at QT as a clerk, and moved up through the ranks as a regional manager in KC in 8 years. Makes like $120k.

Oh I'm aware of it now. Funny/tragic story - a few years ago that same cousin's little sister graduated from HS so a few of us went down there and before the ceremony we had time to stop at Jimmy John's for lunch. As we're pulling out of the Jimmy John's lot I see a Whataburger sign like 1 block down the street. I was enraged that I was unknowingly so close to a Whataburger and didn't take advantage of it. I seriously pouted about it for the rest of the day.

That's it, 15th and Denver is the location. Watched the episode yesterday, and the second half covers the stuff around the QT, not the whole episode I guess.

Did anyone notice they moved the QT in Platte City? It was like, one day it was in it's normal spot and then the next day it was like 100 ft further back from the road and facing the other direction.

They’re putting in a car wash behind my QT. I know they had a few free-standing car washes that they sold. This is a small, single car thing like car washes you see at older gas stations where you can add a wash for $6. I don’t think I’ve seen one of these at a QT before.
-
Dull ass overrated gas station.
I’m curious about this take. I’m not going to say it’s anything special product wise, but they’re so fast.
They put a Casey’s in a mile from my house & it’s unusable.
Edit: I will say I get the further away you get from Tulsa, the worse they are. I stopped at one on I-49 just south of KC (Harrisonville maybe) and if that store was in Tulsa everyone would have been fired.

I wouldn't call myself conspiratorial per se, but as someone who needs to turn in my gas receipts, I've noticed that QT's receipt printers NEVER work. I have to go inside roughly 100% of the time. Is QT trying to make everyone go inside to get their receipt so they're more tempted to buy something? Are they hiding something bigger? It's tough to be sure. But I, for one, do not want these scamming POS's in the lovely city of Manhattan, KS.

Casey's definitely has better food but I feel like it takes 5x as long to checkout compared to QT.
I'm a 90% QT guy when I'm in KC and always realize how lucky I am when I go on road trips and it takes 5 minutes to get some roller food and a bag of ice at XYZ station.
-
Never had a problem with QT, nor its receipts, they have an albeit somewhat vanilla upgrade (though nice, just predictable) for their recent QTs. They do an above average job, and are in general better than pretty much any P66/Shell/Conoco/etc al kinda place and outside of Casey's pizza they are as midwesterny desirable as you can get
-
I don't really buy any of the exclusives at qt, but they are always clean and appropriately staffed which makes it A tier

Same thing at the QTs here in Iowa. My last job, I had a company car and had to turn in receipts, there's a QT right next door to my former office so I got gas there a lot, the receipts at the pump never worked, literally not a single time. I got pissed and started going to a Kum and Go 2 miles away.

When I lived in Wichita I thought that QT was the best gas station ever. I moved to the Des Moines area, where we have 4 different large chain gas stations and QT is absolutely 4th. What I discovered is that QT thrives on exclusivity. QT is very popular in Tulsa, Wichita, and KC where they have the markets to themselves. Since I've lived here exactly half of the QTs have closed or been sold.
Their hot food is significantly worse than Kwik Star/Kwik Trip and Casey's. It's right on par with Kum and Go but K&G has way better store rewards. As mentioned there's a QT, with at QT kitchen, next door to my former office so I ate there enough to know the food is mediocre.
Kwik Star is the best convenience chain I've been too, haven't been to a Bucees yet.
Casey's is second
K&G third, I really want to like them more, they give a lot of money to lib causes, spend a lot in improving downtown DSM, and now own a soccer team and are building a soccer specific stadium here, on a former superfund site.
QT is undoubtedly worse than all of these places, although they are way cleaner than most Casey's and like 7 pointed out, almost certainly treat their employees better. Kwik Star and K&G are also known to be employee friendly.
-
Casey's is coming for QT, and will publicly surpass them within 5 years at most. Their gas pump handles are something you only read about in fantasy stories. And their receipt printers work 20% of the time, a mark significantly higher than QT's.
-
I figured everybody complimenting Casey's did was gE'ing. That place is nasty
-
The best thing about Casey’s, and it’s outrageously good, is that they give me my Hy-Vee fuel rewards plus generally have a 5% Chase Sapphire Reserve cash back going. I’m basically getting paid to get free gas there at this point.

It must just be a distance from the home base thing. I get the food at QT isn’t the best, but it’s not worse than a cold Casey’s hamburger that’s been spinning for 3 hours. The shelves are 1/3 bare. When I walk up to the counter half the time I have to vocalize that someone is at the counter before someone takes 30 seconds to walk over. I only drink water without a lid. Half the time I have to argue with them that it gets charged as an ice cup & I’m not trying to steal Sprite. I’ve had multiple people there put their hand right over the lip of my cup to feel to see if is fizzing, like that’s how they’re trained to distinguish between pop/water.
I usually stop at Casey’s in Salina when I visit my parents & it’s not usually much better, but I’m never getting hot food there.
We have the same gas rebate thing here with Reasors/QT.
-
Every time I've been in Caseys in the past couple of years, I've had terrible service (4 or 5 times).
Every time I've been in QT in the past couple of years (dozens of times), I've had efficient service.

QT has a better selection of food, for sure, but the only real two things Casey's does, pizzas and subs, they absolutely dominate QT.
Kwik Star's food is so much better than Casey's or QT, it's not even funny. I was literally just in one, picking up a half dozen donuts, only Krispy Kreme has better donuts, and there was a woman giving out hot food samples. I nearly took a video tour of Kwik Star and posted it so y'all can see how I'm not BSing. If you find yourself in Iowa, Minnesota, or Wisconsin anytime soon, check one out. I imagine they'll be in Omaha soon enough.

Only in Kansas. In Iowa and Nebraska they have modeled a lot of their stores similarly to the QT kitchens model.
-
I don't want to seem like I'm caping up for Casey's, I don't even get food or gas from there anymore. In the few places where they are actually around diverse neighborhoods they have hired armed security, even though their loss numbers are smaller in these locations. However, people who think QT is way better than Casey's, are crazy.

the new K&G's i have seen in IA, CO, and SD are very nice. there are none around KC though

Are you an SAE?
K&G built a huge office downtown Des Moines and it’s literally across the street from one of the last QTs in town. Which I find funny.
But as MIR said, Kwik Trip/Star is on a whole different level. Hand breaded chicken tender, angus cheeseburgers and this ridiculously cheap gas they market as E88 to fill up the rental car before returning. So much to love.
-
Why don’t you people put the gas in your car and drive to a restaurant?

The max I eat at a QT I'd a quick snack thing. Maybe breakfast if headed to Manhattan for tailgate. I like Qat for the tea and quick clean service.
I assume that kitchen thing is gross food overall.

Mods, please combine with the getting old AF thread.
TIA
-
Who needs a paper receipt if going to your usual chain? Do Casey’s, QT, etc. not have apps that allow you to activate pump, pay, get receipt all from your phone? I thought that was standard these days?
And unless you live in rural small town America, why are you eating there?
-

They sell things on the inside too
-
I agree that Kwik Shop and Casey’s have stepped up their newer stores to compete w/ QT, but the service is just far worse at both.
I’ve been going to Kwik Shop more recently because they added a SmartPay app that gives you at least $.20 off a gallon of gas, discounts on stuff in-store and sometimes free sodas, energy drinks, etc. Buying crap in the store also increases the gas discount. You aren’t allowed to link the app to a credit card tho, so that’s a bummer. Has to be bank account.
If I have crap loads of Dillons points, I’ll go to the Dillons gas stations (used to be Kwik Shops) or their gas islands. I’d probably go to these more if they were closer to my house. They also usually have prices closer to what are inside Dillons than most convenience stores, and give you like 4x fuel points. I’d go here more if they were closer to my house.
I rarely go to Casey’s, and their gas-type/pricing is confusing. It looks like they’re trying to fill their stores with Casey’s branded items. Not sure what to think of this. I do like their pizza and subs tho (but I usually go to jimmy John’s for subs).
-
The people acting like going inside a convenience store or ordering their kitchen/ hot-food items is off are outing themselves as huge dorks/nerds, which isn’t surprising.
-
the soft pretzels at qt are pretty good
but I get my 93 octane fuel at BP on state line and 85th

We have a new standalone hyvee gas station which is the new closest gas station to our house. Not sure if this is going to be a new thing for Hyvee or just a small side project to service their best customer (me).

Both about a block away from a standalone hyvee

I go in QT 2-3 times a day in the summer for a large ice water. $0.32. I’ll use the same cup a few times and the refills are free. In/out in 60-90 seconds.
-
the soft pretzels at qt are pretty good
but I get my 93 octane fuel at BP on state line and 85th
i believe BP can still add up to 10% ethanol in Missouri while some QT’s have 91 ethanol free and all the HyVee Fast n Fresh which is they are #1 in my rankings

QT is like the only place on earth that still has free matches as well.

How did you find out about this? Free matches at a gas station doesn't seem like a great business decision.
Whatever brings em in I guess?

I hate buying extra lighters when I realize I don’t have one one me, they’ve had them as long as I can remember.

the new K&G's i have seen in IA, CO, and SD are very nice. there are none around KC though
The flagship Kum&Go's especially in and around the Des Moines area are the absolute Rolls Royce convenience stores OAT. But the others are really average to below average at best.
-
that’s an interesting way to spell cum
-
Casey's is coming for QT, and will publicly surpass them within 5 years at most. Their gas pump handles are something you only read about in fantasy stories. And their receipt printers work 20% of the time, a mark significantly higher than QT's.
I can't stand how slow Casey's pumps are.
I figured everybody complimenting Casey's did was gE'ing. That place is nasty
Have you been in one the last 5 years or one that's not in BFE?
I thought they were all in BFE?
Only in Kansas. In Iowa and Nebraska they have modeled a lot of their stores similarly to the QT kitchens model.
Manhattan has a Casey's you sonuva :shakesfist:
It's ass

There are actually 3 different types of stand alone Hy-Vee gas stations. Hy-Vee purchased a lot of the old QTs here. They have ones that are essentially standard convenience stores called Hy-Vee Gas. They also have something called Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh, but there are two different types of these, one version that's modeled after QT/K&C/KS. But they also have a deluxe version of these fast and fresh that are absolutely smaller Hy-Vees with gas pumps.

Just filled up at Dillons gas (old Kwik shop) and saved a cool $.80/gallon. $2.599/gallon after discount. w00t!
Edit: con - restroom reeks of old piss. Similar to Allen Fieldhouse.

I am close w some people that are close friends with the Krause family (owners of K&G) they have a major complex when it comes to Casey’s and QT. I know they’ve tried to break into some of QTs stronghold markets and have failed pretty miserably at it.
Hm no, I have family in DSM.
The new headquarters is amazing, but put some serious financial hardship on the company. Think they spent almost 200 million on it.

The family has plenty of money, K&G the company did not have the kind of assets to cover that cost, so the family had to put up a bunch of collateral/cash to cover it.
They seem like nice people, and have done a lot to help DSM. Think that was the main reason behind the insane hq building, they wanted a gem for the city to be proud of. It’s beautiful.

yes this was truly one of the most bizarre gas station purchases I've heard of. I guess it's not really much weirder than a water bottle when you think about it, but still.

At least bottled water comes from somewhere else. The ice water from the local gas station comes from the same place the ice water at his house comes from.

I've never once had to go inside for a receipt in the Wichita area at QT. Apparently the Kansas work ethic is far superior to that of those lazy assholes in Iowa.

We have a Hyvee Gas in St Joe and I go in there for one thing and one thing only: The Kiwi Strawberry Hyvee brand sparkling water at 2/$2.
*Also they have a kick-ass tire air pump thing that is digital and you set your desired pressure and it stops automatically when you get up to it. And it's free, wow!

I start with ice/water from home. I drink a lot of water. I always have a 32oz foam cup in my hand. There’s a QT 1/2 mile from my work. I’ll hit it to refill the ice at lunch & when I leave for work. We have a 100,000 sqft warehouse, so once or twice a week I’ll set it down & lose it, so I’ll have to go get a new one. I’ll usually refill once or twice a day on the weekend while I’m out. This last Sunday I went to 5 or 6 stores & I went in QT for water 3 times at least, maybe 4.
-
What is your form of payment for the 32 cents?
-

There’s a 8” x 8” x 8” decorative bucket in our closet full of change. 4 years ago when I stopped drinking pop it was full. Now it’s probably 1/3 full.

I’ve done the Yeti/other brands that hold ice longer. But they all rust quickly or I lose them.

There’s more to it. I get kidney stones, I’m down one of my two major saliva glands & I fidget with stuff. The first two items resulted in a water cup becoming my fidget thing. Prior to 4 years ago I almost never drank water. I chug it now, but I need it ice cold.

I have a friend who fills up with gas every morning and has a 15 mile round trip commute? Doesn't go in for a drink. Spends like $1.25 or whatever. I find that entirely more insane than Hamburglar.
Is it really free though or does he just assume it is and QT people are just nice?

It’s free. I always go to the counter with the change in my hand ready to pay just in case they still want to charge for a refill & I can keep moving.

Hey guys, be right back, gonna refill my water.
Oh cool. Can you grab me a napkin while you’re in the kitchen?
Oh I’m not going to the kitchen. I’m going to use a styrofoam cup and drive to quick trip. I’ll park my car, lock it, go inside and fill up the foam cup with ice water. Then I’ll drive back to work. I lose my cup a lot so i just grab another styrofoam cup. I plan on doing this several times today because every yeti i own is too rusted. Also i lost my yet, but i wasn’t sad because i was drinking rust.

There are a QT/KnG/Casey's in my town near KC.
RANKING
1. KnG -- Best coffee of the three, free ice water, randomly not open at 5:30 when I go to work, not especially nice building.
2. QT -- probably the best infrastructure but it's in a part of town I don't frequent.
3. Casey's -- Dirty AF, free air no longer free, pizza ok in a pinch, has big giant Space Camper singles.
All in all, they are all sub par.

The ice makers at gas stations also get slimy and disgusting. You just don't see it.

I think burglar should keep on doing his weird thing. But if I was going to offer a solution, it would be to learn that the ice is not actually necessary.

I've heard good things but I'd be annoyed by filling up the water tank and it not burning it's own ice giving me constant fresh ice. Probably asking too much of a $400 product.

I've had this one for about 6 months...

Works well and the 1 gallon tank is a necessity. We use it constantly. The water you use will almost always dictate how long it lasts, how often you have to clean it, and how good the ice is.
QT is a gas station. You shouldn't be eating at a gas station just because they have a spotless kitchen and friendly associates. If possible, fill up at Costco and then drive to a respectable restaurant. Use your gas savings to buy real food.
-
I may have been mixing up Casey's memories with QT memories. Casey's is 0/infinity for their rate of being able to print a receipt outside. And for fun, they usually have 5 people visual working but apparently only 1 that's capable of ringing people up.

Casey's pizza is much better than QTs.
