I had left my backpack and some catfish poles near the outlet of the dam and had started walking around the edges of it trying to catch some fish...next thing you know all of the cattle are coming up lining up to cross the dam and coming up the backside of it so I decided to go collect my things before I have to wade through a sea of cows.

(Circled area is where my backpack and poles are)

Anyways I use my limited farm boi skills and slowly walk towards that area, some cows had already come over the dam and scattered when I got in that area. When I got back to my backpack about 15 of them came running over the dam at the edge of the lake and it scared the crap out of me even tho they were around 30 feet away...just thundering hoof sounds and some cows pop up over the hill.

It was a cow calf operation and when I was trying to walk across the dam to exit there was one momma cow standing in my way mooing for what I'm guessing was her missing calf so I just waited 10 minutes for her to move her fat ass off the dam so I could finally leave.

Zero fish caught (water was muddy due to all the COWS) but it was a 75 degree day in early April so all is well .

Have never had much luck farm pond fishing with the exception of the time we fished my grandfather's pond in Indiana.

Huge brag, but I am planning on fishing as much on weeknights and lunch hours as well! I am going to be spending my summer working remotely from northern MN at a cabin on a lake. This Toon will be on a powered lift with a canopy on my own dock.

Who the eff knows if I will actually catch many fish, but I will enjoy the crap out of the process.

rough ridin' wrap up work, walk out to the boat and go.

I have fished a eff ton this summer, and like so many things in my life, I obsess about it. My teenage son loves it, so I have even more reason to do it. It’s awesome at this age because he takes the boat out by himself and cleans his own fish and runs his own show. The days of rough ridin' with the kids’ lures is behind me.

The pontoon (“The Blue Light Special”) has been a gateway drug. My son and I are getting a 98 Lund Pro V SE 1660 to add to our fleet. It’s a beauty. Hardly used, and gorgeous. Moving all of the pontoon’s electronics over to the Lund. The pontoon is going to become exclusively a pleasure craft. The Lund is going to allow us to more easily go try other lakes.

I also did something else I swore I’d never do….I bought a really expensive St. Croix fishing rod. It’s great, but could easily do almost as well with a cheap rod. It’s just way more sensitive, and I look very cool with it.

What kind of electronics you running on your rig?  I assume you are a garmin purist as a KC cat.  I'm going to put a Striker Vivid SV on mine.

I have a Garmin livescope with a Garmin Echomap 12, and a regular transducer on it too.  I want to add a networked Hummingbird to my Ulterra motor just to control my Ulterra and use the maps from Minnkota. Minnkota has the best maps by far, and when you link them with a good humming bird graph and Minnkota trolling motor you can just tell it yo troll 12 feet water or whatever and it magically does it.

Eastern KS has some pretty good options!

Almost all of my summer fishing was in MN tho.

What kind of fish were you catching up in MN? I wish we had more perch/walleye here in KS.

We got into some perch yesterday on leech lake, which is a humongous lake about 30 minutes from me.  We were trying for walleye using a ned rig with Zman TRD lures and keep getting perch nibbling on it. We were dumb and didn’t bring any panfish lures, so it took a while to land very many of them….just shot loads of bites.

My lake has tons of crappie/sunfish/bass, and only a few walleye and pike.  The perch on our lake are pretty small, and kinda spook easily.

Pete, outsource this project to your son

I am very, very, very seriously considering doing this.  This thing has budgetary approval.

Crap, I’d need a different livescope model. I have Echomap and needs the higher end chstplotter to get HDMI out
