I feel bad killing the fish to eat it when I have so much food available that I didn’t personally have to kill.

Fishing guys. Lil SF loves to fish and I hate it for the most part. We go a couple times a year and its fine. Usually Grandpa takes care of everything so I don't have to do too much gross stuff. Anywho, what's the proper way to murderkill a fish? Lil SF loves to eat his catch which I can appreciate. Poor Grandpa used to murder tiny blue gill all the time to make him happy. So, what's the play with limited tools for say a catfish? Grandpa does a great job and he knows i'm not rough ridin' doing it, but I can tell he is a bit uncomfortable sometimes with his murdering techniques.
How little?  I’d buy frozen fish filets and fry those up and lie to the kid and say it’s the fish he caught.

He's over the eat everything no matter the size phase. I'm talking a reasonable sized catfish.
Lol, I think he was asking how little is Lil SF.

Meh. I see no difference in eating something you personally kill vs something someone else killed. Plus, the fish/animal you killed probably enjoyed a better life.

There is a sort of primal satisfaction that comes when you catch something, kill it and cook it yourself. Can't get that in the tofu aisle at your local grocery store.

I am not casting judgement.  I eat all kinds of delicious creatures.  But I don't like doing the dirty work, making the sausage if you will.

Many of my followers are already aware of my purchase of a 1997 20 foot pontoon, which I am repowering with a new 90hp Mercury Command Thrust.  It used to have a 50hp Johnson, so this sucker is going to move (for a pontoon).

However, I have been getting a LOT of questions about my fishing setup on my Toon. The Toon came with a large open deck area on the front, outside of the pontoon railing. That area will be transformed into the fishing war room. I’m adding two swivel chairs, an Minn Kots Ulterra trolling motor with the sweet old-man-friendly auto-deploy/stow and spot lock and all that rough ridin' crap, Garmin livescope with the large screen, and periscope attachment to direct the the livescope transducer. Also adding onbaoard charger for all the batteries. The Toon already has a CD player in it with an Aux hole, so I can listen to Big Head Todd CD’s AND plug my phone in.

Couple things I wan to add:
- lights for night fishing, with maybe some color tint options
- bunch of rod holders
- cooler with the bubbles stuff rigged up as a bait/live well
- an absurdly loud and disturbing horn
- maybe a ski tower for tubers/kneeboarding/wakeboarding

I plan to be out on it for opening weekend of fishing in MN, fingers crossed.

I plan on using the livescope in perspective mode in the sand flats immediately off of the deep areas to try and find some walleye.

My top three starting strategies will be:

1. Slip bobber to dangle the bait about 2 feet of the bottom in 6 - 10 feet of water. Probably with large shiner minnows and night crawlers.

2. Casting a Ned rig with Zman TRD’s.

3. Trolling with a lindy rig with minnows and crawlers.

If I am getting skunked, I’ll just fish the banks for sunfish, crappie, perch and maybe the random ornery bass or northern.

It’s against the law in MN to catch a perch and then put it on a big hook and sinker and throw it out and troll the deep areas for big northern, so I will definitely not do that.

hey pete, it has come to my attention that you might be considering catching a perch and putting it on a big hook and sinker and throwing it out into the deep areas and i think you should think twice before you pursue this mad plan.

One time a caught a tiny crappie, put it on a big ole circle hook with a weight and caught a big ole blue cat...then I learned it was illegal to use "Sport fish" as bait.

I still use tiny cut up blue gill as catfish bait tho

No water but there is a liquid medium composed of 2-4D, atrazine and liquid fertilizer for them to subsist in.

Agree. Clearer heads must prevail.

This is how you catch the really big fish. Just attach the hooks to empty bottles of laundry detergent and use a long rod with a hook attached to it to haul them in.

Canadian guy I know might tie them up to his dock and throw them out past the drop off. He better not get a snapping turtle or burbot snake fish thing or else that line is getting cut fast and the god damn abomination can deal with the hook on its own.

I wonder whether the hard core every day livescope fishermen welcome the spring bite as much as they used to.  I’ve watched these dudes find them in Feb in all grouped up by submerged timber just floating there and the guys just drop their jigs right to their stupid faces and bingo fish bite.

I still have a lot to learn about livescoping, but man alive the crappie fishing seems to be the most transformed by the technology.

Cross post with the farming thread.

KS has basically walk in fishing areas where they pay farmers to allow public access to farm ponds.

I went to one by Tonganoxie 2 weeks ago and there were 50-100 cattle on this field. You climb over a little ladder to get into the property and when I arrived all the cows were in the back pasture away from the pond.

After an hour or so they start working their way towards the pond and behind the dam.
