I went to phoenix this weekend and left wondering why anyone would choose to go there. It just becomes more and more awful the more the San Francisco smugness rubs off on me.
Oh, brother.

Going there (Phoenix) in 2 weeks, any protips?

Same question here. Have to go to Phoenix late in the month and haven't been there since '93. Took my golf clubs then, but won't have time to golf this time.

Also, thanks for the Scottsdale tip, Wacky. It reminded me that every time I've been to Phoenix I've holed up in Scottsdale. No better choice.

What would you normally do in Wichita? You can probably do the same thing in Phoenix, only with more dust.

Thanks for the input, mcat. Having spent a good bit of time in Wichita on an annual basis, I feel I may now have some basis for decision making on this one. In other words, for a short trip, find a good hotel and a good restaurant. Plenty of both in Scottsdale, I believe.

I threw these in the ring, plus a good friend of ours pushed hard for Eastern Europe, but it's her trip. She grew up speaking French and wants to finally visit France. We're going to Paris, Montpelier or something, somewhere else I think (Monaco maybe), and then Bordeaux (via train).

Ok, so we are basically doing this. Been told to stay in the Latin Quarter in Paris. Any lodging recommendations?

No idea where the latin quarter is.  I stayed at a hotel close to Moulin Rouge (some form of the Mercure brand) and found it a pretty walkable area.  Anybody that talks up the Paris flea market is a dumbass, disregard that and any other advice they give you.

Does Ft. Scott not have anything? Joplin too far?

Side note, when did Highway 71 become an interstate?

The closest Hilton is Clinton, MO. I might as well just stay at my parents if I'm going to drive that far.  I want to get good and PAK'd.  I'll just have to stay at the Super 8 or something.

I enjoyed Walk-On's right there close to campus and the stadium.  Had some fried gator bites there that were pretty tasty.  Disclaimer: we went hard the night before and were 3-4 deep by the time we went there.

I'm sure there are better places in town but I dont know what they are.

LAYOVER HELP REQUEST  :runaway:

Guys, I have a couple layovers next week/weekend.  Is there anything worthwhile to do for a 2.5 hr Friday afternoon layover in Ft. Lauderdale (FLL), or in Charlotte NC (CLT) for 3 hrs on a sunday afternoon?

I have downloaded a couple movies and have a good book I am in the middle of, but can save those for the flights if those two places have anything worthwhile to offer.

Any good recomendos?
