Has anyone been to Guatemala? Girlfriend is considering a trip this summer with the school she teaches at, but her parents are concerned with safety issues. There's plenty of info online but I was wondering if anyone here could offer any first-hand info. tia

My sister lives in Guatemala.  She has had no problems with kidnappers.  She says the beer is very strong.

thx bloodfart

New Orleans, tomorrow.  Meeting elite east coast private school boys at Old Absinthe then eating at Luke's.

It's easy to find trouble in Central America, but it's also easy to avoid it if you're not a dumbass (<--i.e. high school girls who "thought they could trust that Caribbean night club bouncer). Bad neighborhoods are easy to spot. Other than that, just avoid poaching xate in the Chiquibul forest and she should be fine. Tell her xenophobic parents not to freak out and just imagine the maras are rednecks and the coke is meth, and they should feel just as comfortable sending her to some armpit co-op/post-office rural KS town.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

Always glad to defend Latin America by indirectly disparaging Mound Valley. I mean, if a place doesn't inspire you to caustic comparisons about places near your hometown, it's not worth visiting.

Edit: there are a couple places I would only recommend to people looking to lose their old identity.

Is there some EMAW event in NO this weekend?  SWA  1791 is bumping with purp.  Or do emaws just spend their off season weekends jetting to elite American cities?

How funny is it when adjacent gates are boarding at the same time but one is going to a fun city and the other is going some garbage place?

My gate is new Orleans the next one is Cleve.

 :excited:   :combofan: < my gate

 :bawl:  < Cleveland

SWA

 :flush:

Yah.  But biz select and free drinks

If you're going MCI to MSY there is no better way to travel. These KC'ians need to remember where they are and where they're going.

I took ExpressJet from MCI to MSY back when they did the route.  Direct, satellite radio and $1 beers.  I wonder how they didn't make it?

SWA is also the best direct to LAX- since Midwest cut their LAX-MCI flight.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

SWA is the only direct to Vegas from Omaha.  United and Delta are the only directs to NYC.  We have no directs to LA  :frown:

Sounds terrible not living close to a hub.
