Has anyone been to Lisbon?
Amazing

That's what I've heard. I'd like to go in the fall or spring, along with London and Berlin. Which of the 3 is the best to fly home from?

heathrow is the worst airport in the entire world.  start with that data point and go from there.

I bet sys has

lisbon is fantastic.  one of the most enjoyable cities i've ever visited.  i loved everything about it.  i've heard porto is even better, but i've never been.

EuroCat, we're taking the Eurostar from London to Paris. Where in Paris should we stay? We're only in Paris for a couple days, so preferably an area that's close to the dropoff point.
Super elite. I  the Eurostar. One time the train broke and had to stop at Lile for about 1.5 hours. Got a free roundtrip voucher to Paris lying around :ksugrad: .

I don't really have a good go to spot in Paris. Once i stayed at a Mercure right outside of Gare du Nord (station where you arrive) which was pretty nice and quite cheap. Very convenient but a horrible, horrible area.

One time i stayed at a place in Champs du Mars that was pretty cool and not too far from the Eiffel tower. Place was called Hotel du Cadran i believe. Would stay again but there are probably better places. About €150 a night if i recall.

Last time i was in Paris i was hanging out with one of my Parisian friends right off the Metro stop Riquet. Pretty cool bar/cafe area and definitely not touristy. There was a Holiday Inn Express right there that might be a decent option. Holiday Inns in Europe are actually genrally pretty nice.

We stayed at Villa Des Artistes in the St. Germain district. It turned out to be a Best Western affiliate, and it was fine. Certainly didn't look like an American hotel chain.

Well London will definitely have the most flights.

Also, LHR is the worst airport in the world maybe if you fly into losery terminals like 1-4. PROTIP: Book an American flight operated by British Airways and fly into Terminal 5

Thanks for the tip. I'm thinking. Arrive LHR, easyjet to Berlin, easyjet to Lisbon, Lisbon to MCI via EWR or whatever

Easyjet doesn't fly into LHR. It's either Luton, Stanstead, Gatwick or London City. You can connect by bus service or train (most likely via central London) but it's going to be a pain in the ass. If you're staying in London it's not such a big deal but be careful with Easyjet.

Have flown to and from Gatwick before.  Not bad.  Drove straight down to Brighton for the day after landing so made the drive that much shorter.

Also consider Cologne for a day/night.  Cool city without having to traverse too much of Germany coming from the west. And the Christmas market thing will be on in Dec so :drink: :drink: :barf: the Gluhwein.

Have heard rumblings of this for some time. :frown:

damn, that sucks.  Frontier is Omaha's only nonstop to Orlando and DC.  Would be super pissed if they cut back here.

Has anyone been to Guatemala? Girlfriend is considering a trip this summer with the school she teaches at, but her parents are concerned with safety issues. There's plenty of info online but I was wondering if anyone here could offer any first-hand info. tia

a kid who I went to grade school with lived there two years while his dad was one of those over seas preacher guys.  kid wouldn't shut up about it.  no matter what the subject in school the kids hand went up and when called on you knew that "In Guatamalla they...." was coming.  Just awful.  You should break up with her now to avoid the pain.

Just read the last few pages of this thread... how long have SD and EuroCat had the same avatar and caption?  When I'm reading a thread a lot of the time I won't look at the name of the poster unless I don't recognize the avi out of the corner of my eye.  How many of EuroCat's posts did I attribute to SD?!?!  :runaway:
:adios:

My sister lives in Guatemala.  She has had no problems with kidnappers.  She says the beer is very strong.
