Also, I find it is vey satisfying to use coins of larger denominations on the regular.

yeah, it's nice to be able to pull out some heavy metal discs and exchange them for something moderately valuable.  very tactile and satisfying.

I hate change. Where do you keep it? front packet just jangling around?
Right front pocket. I love carrying around change. I really enjoy using it. Like when something costs $15.81, I give the cashier $20.81 and get a nice $5 bill back instead of a messy $4.19. My kids find it disturbing but I like it.

I’m left front pocket. It’s so much easier in Europe getting something at stand on the street/train station with coins than trying to unfold bills.

I have found you can basically pay with CC everywhere. I believe I have roughly $7MM in Swiss franc coins in and old backpack.
My winning smile and can-do attitude.

Question for people who fly a lot: are their airlines out there that suck less than American? Seems like all the connections available for intl flights from the middle of KS are with AA but man, they just seem to have this generally hostile attitude toward their customers (maybe it is b/c I am a n00b traveler). We used Alaska Airlines once for a trip to the PNW and all their staff seemed really nice and helpful (plus they sponsor the Huskies sweet football field).

I'm a AA fanboy. Thought of switching to Delta as I hear good things but too much going to ATL.

i like dfw quite a bit.  most places we fly we connect through lax, sfo or dfw and dfw is by far the best of those.

I can also say that traveling out of DFW is by far the easiest of the 3. I don't think it's ever taken me more than 10 minutes to get through TSA, and I've done it a lot.

Is DFW termy D still the place to be? A young Wetwillie loved grabbing a mimosa during his layover in Termy D.

I don't really pay attention. I think I'm usually A or B. Shout out to Love Field, too.

ORD agreed. The biggest beef I have with DFW is how quickly storms eff up the works.

CTLCLT needs to be completely rebuilt. It's being called on to do what it was never designed to do.  Like the majority of the infrastructure in the Carolinas.

IMO none of the non-budget airlines are really different. You'll deal with great people or shitty people depending on the situation both you and the people you're dealing with are in. Especially connecting on an international from Kansas, I definitely wouldn't pay more to like use United or Delta instead of American or something if the total travel time is similar. Just not worth it.

I should clarify this really only applies to US and European airlines IMO. Cathay or Singapore for example definitely feel more elevated and I'm guessing the middle east ones do too.

Delta stopped giving almost any points if you weren't paying for travel costs. But I always loved flying Delta. It's tough to beat free TV. Or maybe everyone offers that, I don't know, I haven't turned my Capital One points into flights yet.

You mean earning points from flights or credit card bonuses? Because now pretty much all loyalty programs are based on how much you spend. And pretty much everyone has live TV on at least some flights.

I'm planning a trip to New Zealand's south island for ten days next April.  Anyone ever been?

Gonna rent a car.  And go all over.  Plan to stay at a couple of these.  https://canopycamping.co.nz/find-your-escape

I'm open to advice on how to use my points.  I've got around 213,000 points.  Use them on flights?  Hotels for when we're not at canopycamping?
