Family Trip will be to Yellowstone and the surrounding area next year. I've been before but I was 12. We're looking at getting an Air Bnb outside the north entrance near Gardiner. HOWEVER, the more I think about it the more I think maybe we should get a house near the south entrance so we're closer to the Grand Tetons and then we can do both and not have to drive forever. But I like that the north entrance is less tourist-y.
Any dos/don'ts/pro tips/nuggets/hacks/ or suggestos are appreciated.
I think mocat posted some great reviews/recommendations on here or the VQ thread a few times. Search for those.
Yellowstone is huge and you’re going to drive a ton regardless. I’d recommend tacking the Tetons onto the front or back end and stay a night or two down there rather than trying to do it as a day trip from Yellowstone.
Main attractions will be swamped mid-day. Go out early, siesta midday, and then go back out late afternoon to avoid the biggest crowds. Plus the views are just that much better when you see the steam rising in the early/late light. Staying in the park makes this a lot easier.
Definitely get up ridiculously early and drive to Lamar valley for wildlife viewing.
