All I saw was sage brush, antelopes and broken dreams driving from Cheyenne to Centennial. The breweries were terrible and the food was bland. Other than that it was not bad.

Colorado Mountain towns? What is this the 90's/00's?!?

All the cool kids have migrated up to Wyoming (Encampment/Saratoga) but you have to remember to mention you are from Kansas. If they find out you are there from Colorado they will CUT you just enough so you don't die and tell you spread the word that Coloradan's are not welcome there.

the town itself was pretty uninteresting, but i drove through north park a year or two ago and thought it was a pretty unique and amazing area.  i dunno about permanent residence, but i could see developing a habit of annually migrating to that area.

During Covid 2020ish I legit thought about selling my KC house and buying some house in Encampment (lol) or Saratoga (L O L) thinking I could break even.....long story short even 3 years ago my house in OP was worth less than what I would pay for a shittier house in WY.

Eventually I decided if I wanted to trade houses it would have to be in this lovely old coal mining town about 1 hr away from where I wanted to be.

I'm still living in OP

Wyoming is ass, just spent time there.  Idaho > Wyoming by a pretty wide margin.

I 100% agree with you, no one should ever go to southeast Wyoming which is exactly the same as Colorado but totally not as cool. You should definitely go to the snake river valley and leave WY for the poors.
One of my moms two houses is still in WY you son of a bitch! You’re right tho WY sucks ass to actually live there.

Which mom?

Doesn't take many beers to get mumped up in Leadville.  At least that's what my Canadian friend experienced.

Any Austin pro tips? Going to be spending a few days there this weekend and I've never been.

Terry Black's is worth the wait. I think of their beef ribs almost every day.

Pretty fun nugget considering how Coloradans feel about Californians

Family Trip will be to Yellowstone and the surrounding area next year. I've been before but I was 12.  We're looking at getting an Air Bnb outside the north entrance near Gardiner. HOWEVER, the more I think about it the more I think maybe we should get a house near the south entrance so we're closer to the Grand Tetons and then we can do both and not have to drive forever. But I like that the north entrance is less tourist-y.

Any dos/don'ts/pro tips/nuggets/hacks/ or suggestos are appreciated.

Yeah Lake City pop is like less than 500. For comparo, Leadville is like 2500.

I think mocat posted some great reviews/recommendations on here or the VQ thread a few times.  Search for those.

Yellowstone is huge and you’re going to drive a ton regardless.  I’d recommend tacking the Tetons onto the front or back end and stay a night or two down there rather than trying to do it as a day trip from Yellowstone.

Main attractions will be swamped mid-day.  Go out early, siesta midday, and then go back out late afternoon to avoid the biggest crowds.  Plus the views are just that much better when you see the steam rising in the early/late light.  Staying in the park makes this a lot easier.

Definitely get up ridiculously early and drive to Lamar valley for wildlife viewing.
