Never been to Mexico. Don't really get the draw. Is it like, way way cheaper?

than what?

Similar latitudinal alternatives?

Cheap.   Quick flights.   Slight chance of beheading.

Sounds busy, tho.  Lots of people.

Opinions on Barbados? Looking at the Caribbean for a vacation but there are so many islands, how does one choose?  :runaway:

Go here if you want to get crap faced and barely make it back to your ship before you puke.

cheaper, quicker/easier to get to, large variety of places you could stay, great beaches, great ocean life. there really isn't much to not like. from cancun to two hours south (tulum) there's pretty much whatever anyone would want. where have you gone instead? why wouldn't you go there?

It's much more impressive to tell your friends you went to the caribbean.

Say, Cancun for example?

yeah probably.

i'm going to take my family here in a month though. we'll divide up the stays between a couple of places just to mix it up, but we'll stay here for three or four days. it's right on a large reef and shore shorkeling is supposed to be absolutely fantastic. the place looks nice enough and here is a picture of the pool. it's all inclusive with restaurants and a kids club or whatever if we wanted to use it. it's also around $170/night. absolutely ridiculous. 1)you can't get this in most caribbean locations. 2)if you can, you are paying three times as much and it's harder to get there. at least flying out of mhk it would be. but yeah, probably not as impressive as telling my co-workers i went to st kitts.

I didn't have a real reason for saying that.  Just sounded funny.

I haven't stayed in the Riviera Maya but you cannot beat Cozumel for easy of diving and snorkeling.  The water clarity and temp is never a question due to the Gulf stream, the weather is almost always great unless there is a hurricane and it can be as cheap or as nice you want it to be for accommodations.  The fancy pants dining options are limited but eating great seafood from the same couple of places isn't that bad.

The nightlife is pretty limited to just drunk hayseeds from the midwest tho

i've stayed in the riviera maya 6 times. keep going back due to its affordability, ease of travel, and beauty. never had a bad time. stay away from cancun unless you enjoy being around 5 billion people, huge buildings, and sub-completion underwater hj's.

I have been to the Caribbean and Mexico some. It's fine for what it is. I wouldn't call any of the parts I've been to "beautiful" or anything. Just, like, fine for what they are. I will probably go back sometime with other people but won't plan a trip there for myself.

a good portion of the hundred miles or so that are south of cancun are without a doubt "beautiful". so are the negril cliffs in jamaica.

Will usually do Mexico on a spur of the moment weekend trip around January/Feb on a particularly poor weather weekend here.

Caribbean is for cruises

My IRL bro is in Cleveland right now for work, he'd probably pak with anyone (as long as he's not on night shift), watch Cats FB and NGAF.
