did he make a comment about the GM's daughter (and her tits)?

Just a big misunderstanding.

GM's about 70, so prolly not. Creeper was misinformed about the hotel rooms minibar being free. Actually, all the minibars on his floor. And the other floors. And the other hotels.

Maybe Something We've Lost Isn't Lost (Long)

As I was listening to LHC Bill Snyder's interview on ESPN today I could hear in the voice of Scott Van Pelt a combination of affection, bewilderment and genuine respect for the man who stands in the middle of a rushing river that is college football, just like a fly fisherman whose been to that river every day of his life.  He stands there, nonplussed by the reflections of light or the things that go jumping by, things that are beyond his reach.  You could shout to him, but he wouldn't hear you.  He is looking for what he's always looked for - the perfect moment.  LHC Bill Snyder is still perfecting his craft.  It isn't about how many fish he hauls in or the size, well maybe it is, but it is also the intrinsic things, technique, an appreciation for his surroundings, perhaps the companions who stand alongside him, or perhaps its those fleeting moments when his memories come full circle and tell him what is about to happen next.

And in my own moment of reflection, I realized something.  We all knew this same guy, perhaps from a generation or two ago.  For me it was my grandpa, a hard-nosed native Kansan who once cut his hand clean through to the bone with a shrub trimmer - he was in his late eightees - let out a horrible streak of words I'd only dared to have heard about, poured water on the wound, wrapped a hankerchief around his hand, put a stick in his mouth (to bite on) and walked down the street to the hospital. Tough as nails.  What did I learn from him?  Everything.  I'm still discovering things years after he passed on.  If you're like me, Wildcats live everywhere and we work everywhere, but the bond between the generation that has wisdom and the generation that needs it has become stretched and strained like never before, across so many miles and the business of our world.

That's why LHC Bill Snyder matters.  He is that guy, that timeless person who really strives to maintain values that some might consider outmoded.  Imperfect?  Yes, but seasoned through his errors.  Why do teams fear him?  He percieves certain things that others in his profession have not yet learned, maybe never will.  Why is Kansas State a tough draw?  Because he believes in things other coaches do not believe in, regrettably.  Why is he the most respected living person in our state, with a highway and a stadium that bear his name?  Because each of us knew that fly fisherman at some point in our lives, and Coach is the personification of that someone we once knew.  We know that it is a part of who we are supposed to become and his players are drawn to that too.  We long for that wisdom, we sorely need that sense of courage and adherence to the fundamentals in our lives.

If you are a Kansan who returns to grandpa's farm, you'll notice that the grandkids seem to circulate around his worn out boots, his unfashionable blue jeans and his gruff personality.  The tougher he is, the more they're magnetized and fascinated.  In this same way, LHC Bill Snyder would rather cultivate what he has, working into the night, than to win the affection of strangers, but he does win their affection, because the artisanship he practices and his attention to details that matter most are lost in that raging river that we call modern life.  Coach reminds me of that poem my grandpa - the same tough guy - used to recite from Robert Frost.  "I took the road less traveled by... and that has made all the difference."

Who the hell do you cut your hand almost off with a hedge trimmer. Isn't that a handheld tool? And even if its the electric version you'd almost have to do it on purpose.

I liked the part where he almost cut his hand off with a hedge trimmer the best.

But I also like the part where if you're a Kansan who returns to grandpa's farm, you'll notice that the grandkids seem to circulate around worn out boots, unfashionable blue jeans and gruff personalities.

Made two bets with a Squawk today   Reply

A guy I've worked with is a ku diehard and, while I'm pretty sure he doesn't believe his team can win, feels like they can make it..."chippy."

So, I made these two $50 bets

1.  Daniel Sams will score more TDs than ku's offense
2.  ku will have more punts than converted third downs.

He took them BOTH!!

Should make the game kind of fun to watch.  I mean, you know, MORE fun

if ku gets a couple of garbage touchdowns .... and Sams only plays 3 series .... you could lose that bet.

I'm betting that Snyder will let Sam Johnson have some reps at the end of the game at QB, after Sams had 3 series or so.

Now I like the #2 bet..ha.

I think for my first app I'll make a virtual Kansas grandpa farmer.  Doesn't seem to be a lot of requirements.
