I am old (55) and have been stuck musically for the last 30+ years. I need some new/different stuff. My recent purchases include:

Eminem: Marshall Mathers, Recovery
Pearl Jam: Ten, Vs
Kid Rock: Rock and Roll Jesus
Nirvana: Greatest Hits (by far my favorite)
Theory of a Dead Man: Scars and Souvenirs

I know. A lot of this still old stuff, but it is new for me. Any other suggestions?

Who's this teams Colin Klein?
The comparisons have been fairly made about this BBall team being very similar to the FBall team.

That being said, who's this teams The Chamber?  How about this teams Tyler Lockett?  This teams Arthur Brown?  This teams Chris Harper?  How about this teams Ray Kibble?

I'll go:

CK- Jamar - not always pretty but very consistent.  Can be looked to as a leader vocally and by action.  Not record setting though, of course.
Tyler Lockett- Thomas Gipson.  Freshman that has made an immediate lasting impact and doesn't look to be fading away.
AB- I think I'll go with Southwell.  He just does what you ask him to do and does it well.  Sometimes quietly.  Sometimes with some flash.  Constantly looking to improve and will.
Chris Harper- Rodney.  Big play ability and consistent.  Can disappear at times though but never quits.
Ray Kibble-  Martavious-  Underappreciated defender and not over the top but solid performance through and through.

I'm sure you can come up with all kinds of comparisons.  Let's have 'em.  I even wondered about teams in general.  Who's the Okie St of this conference?  The TX AM (highly talented but overrated and underperforming)?  The KU (by far and away the worst in the conference)?  Who's the Miami?  etc

Can be some very interesting comparisons/similarities to the FBall players/season.  And I wouldn't hesitate to believe that the BBall team took major note of the heart/style of the Fball team.

Well I really liked the first response, which actually did not answer the question at all.

Some of my favorites to play in were the roundhouse in McPherson, Topeka high's dungeon, Wichita north's, hesston's, and southeast of saline's. The roundhouse and dungeon are unrivaled in atmosphere though.

and then there were other doozies:

Dighton had a tiny tiny gym!!

Clifton had a small one. Spectators were close & they had an upstairs for spectators kind of like Nickols gym. Agree on Frankfort & also have to put Hanover in there.

Back in the early 60s there was a player from Goff Kansas that led them to a state tourney and maybe a championship. I think there were only about 8 or 9 boys in the school. I think the player was Sourk, and played at washburn. Does anyone have any information on this. i think the goff mascot was roosters, i am sure this was a small gym type of school

Pre 1975 before the new gym was built. Short court with restraining lines.
Scott City vs Dighton games in there are to this day the loudest environments I've experienced.

Coyville, Welda, Westphalia, Kincaid, Tonovay and Cassoday would all rival gyms that have been mentioned. This began to change around 1970 with consolidation closing many of the old buildings. Most of the young people of today have very little idea of the challenges their grandparents faced when they played.

The old Sherman Junior High gym in Hutchinson. There was a restraining line insdie the out of bounds line that was used for throwing the ball in because there was no room outside of the out of bound line on all four sides of the court. One side and both ends had a balcony that hung over the out of bounds line. The other side had a four foot or so deep orchestra pit with abut a 6" ledge along the out of bounds line that many a player "fell" into if they weren't paying attention when falling out of bounds on that side of the court. The team benches were in the orchestra pit. The basketball goals were attached to the hand railings in the balcony and Sherman students sitting up there were known to reach over and bat a visiting teams ball away from the rim once in awhile..... some times the ref saw it and some time he didn't, it depended on who the visiting team was and how much my dad wanted to beat that team. :-) (sorry dad) Since I played for the rival Central Junior High team, we fit that category with my dad! LOL That gym was also on the second floor with classrooms underneath the gym. There were several "dead" spots on the tile floor (yes, tile floor) of that gym and my dad did a good job of teaching his teams how to run their defense to push a visiting teams player who had the ball to one of those dead spots where the ball would just stop bouncing and then his player would swoop up the ball and race to the other end for a lay-up... happened to me more than once I'm afraid. Sorry dad, I'm squealing on you again!

Woodbine ks. Dunlap ks. during layups ya could not go full speed, would have to peel ya off the wall. Those small gyms were o so loud, when girls started screaming, needed ear plugs. great days!!

I was in the old Sedgwick gym earlier this year. It is a full sized court.

I think my favorite little known gym in Kansas is Glasco/ Southern Cloud. It is all brick and finished wood with a wonderful parquet floor. Really beautiful.

For a homer pick, I always liked Minneapolis' gym. 10 rows of permanent cement bleachers on each side. The place could really get loud.

Nothing was like playing on the Manhattan High School stage. Fans came early so they could sit in the middle of the auditorium and see both baskets.

Courtland Kansas. My Grandad played there in 1915-1917. The gym had a stove at center court. Several players (and refs) would get burned because of a well placed hip according to grandad. The gym was used for family reunions and such after the school closed in the 50's. I don't know if it's still there or not, it was in 1970. The gym at Bern Kansas was darn small before the new one was built in the late 90s or early 2000's. Bern also had a crow's nest where the time keeper and scorer would sit. It was hell in volleyball.

Wow, I remember going to one of my high school games during the regular season and seeing 8000 people in the old round house (before it became Koch). That was '79 when Heights beat South even though Ricky Ross (signed with KU) out played Antoine Carr (signed with WSU). So I know nothing of what this thread is about.
