Had a recent conversation with one of Currie's good friends. He knows it's not a great situation with Bill at the helm, but there's nothing he can do about it at this point as long as he's making bowls games and beating KU. Sean is a different story. Currie is aware that Bill ultimately wants Sean in charge, but he won't let that happen. I'm 100% confident that as long as Currie is our AD (and no, he's not interested in the Tennessee job when it opens up...which is going to happen soon) Sean will never be more than an assistant coach.
Maybe you really did hear different, but I really doubt Currie is all too worried about leaving Bill in charge for now. It's about as stable as a situation can get; boosters are firmly on his side, people will keep showing up to games and the money will keep steadily flowing in. You people obsessing over this next football hire are also assuming the Currie must be obsessing over it as well. You forget that anyone that knows the business knows that an AD's success is far from solely based on the hire's they make. Currie has already accomplished a couple of THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS he needed to do; produce solid revenue again, reconnect with the grassroots donors, pay Frank, and upgrade our facilities.
Maybe he didn't get to make his hire as soon as he wanted, sure, but I promise you he's crossed the first two objectives he had off his list. When the time comes he'll be able to make his hire, too. And he will have assured a higher level of stability for the program and for the ath dept's budget.
From a fan's perspective, things might look a bit depressing for the next few years.
From an AD's perspective, it looks extremely successful.
