Didn't Lavin get caught cheating like crazy or something leading to his firing?

I think you're thinking of the guy before him, Jim Harrick.

Funny how people haven't learned from oscar's performance this year that proven, veteran coaches are the best way to go.

I think it just proves that ADs for the most part are unimaginative and cowardly.

UCLA hired New Mexico coach Steve Alford on Saturday to replace Ben Howland, ending a process that had rapidly changed direction several times over the past few days.

"It's been a difficult morning to tell a team that I dearly love and a team and built last six years," Alford said in a Saturday afternoon news conference in Albuquerque.

Texas State is conducting a better search.

Even UMKC got a better coach.

Why in the world did UCLA hire somebody before talking with Gregg Marshall?

I kinda think Greg Marshall is crazy enough to stay at Wichita State until he flames out and gets fired.

After today, he's in LHC Bill Snyder territory at WSU. I'm guessing he, Smart and Stevens pretty come up for every opening. They'll probably only get picked off by the real blue bloods or Texas.

If they didn't leave for UCLA I don't think they'll leave for Texas.

Today was gold for Wichita State.  This is the kind of thing that could get them bumped into the Big East if they expand to higher numbers.

If I were a UCLA fan I would be disappointed with Alford.  However, if I were a UCLA fan I'd be furious with the administration for their squandering of a great program.

As a K-State fan, I would have been disappointed with Alford.  I don't think he's any better than oscar, personally, and if he is, the difference is marginal at best.

I don't know if it will get them into the new or old Big East, but it might get them considered as a non-football MWC member which I think would be a pretty good fit for them.

Yeah. I may have been a little meh if we hired Alford instead of Weber, but not disappointed. Now, if I'm UCLA, I'd probably be a little angry.

Yep, totally just combined the two into one dude. I didn't realize how long Lavin was doing tv. I thought he coached at URI and Georgia, then went into TV.  :embarrassed:

Big surprise here folks, Jason King thinks Alford was the perfect fit for small time UCLA

Stevens and Smart would seem out of place amid the bright lights of Los Angeles. They're not Hollywood enough.

ha ha, what a white midwesterner thing to say.

he does have a good point about recruiting California, but the rest of that column was pretty bad.
