I don't think Frank cares if there is an AD in place. If he's willing to look past the cacty University/fan support, why the eff would he care about the AD?
I do question whether Miami will feel compelled to move on a basketball hire without first filling the AD spot.
It has been over a month since their AD spot was vacated. You have to wonder how long the process will take for the basketball had coach replacement. I guess, not that it really matters though, it gives them longer to get their moeny people together.
I'm not 100% convinced that Shalalalala would hire him. If the AD submitted his name, and the New Times stuff came to her attention, she's going to veto him on the spot given what we 'think' we know about her. Also, given his reputation as a 'fiery' and intense sideline coach, I'm thinking will hurt him as well. Like others have said, she vetoed Leach. Frank is a household name in college basketball, but the reason he is famous to some is why he's infamous to others. There are a lot of programs, the "U" being one of them, that may shy away from it. Remember that Miami is a private school that fancies themselves to be a lot more academic than they really are. They may not want a ranting and raving coach to be the face of one of their most public programs.
Also, as much as we don't care, Frank's name is tied in with Shakey, the CLA guys, etc. down in Miami. He's kind of associated with all of that craziness that the New Times keeps digging up, and I'm guessing the AD won't be strong enough to fight for him. They'll go with the search firm and path of least resistance.
Frank lobbying for the job through the national media, or trying to get Art and Shakey to keep saying things like, "If Miami did this, and Miami did that, etc." are things he'd do regardless to try and get a pay bump here if he wasn't interested in the job. Like I said earlier in the thread, this was his GOLDEN opportunity to get a big extension (or a gig down there), and it would appear that Miami isn't biting at all. Currie won't extend him without someone actually coming at him, so the longer this drags out, the longer it would appear that they really are moving in a different direction, and he won't get a dime out if what should have been his big windfall.
