So the league coaching salaries look something like this: (give or take depending on the source)

Self 3.6 mil
Barnes 2.2 mil
Kruger 2.2 mil
Ford 1.8 mil
Turgeon 1.6 mil
Frank 1.55 mil
Haith 1.5 mil
Drew .9 mil
Hoiberg .9 mil
Gillispie .8 mil

that drew number is not correct.

When wearing my Powercat in Washington state, comments from total strangers will invariably start with one of two subjects,  LHC Bill Snyder or "that coach" referring to Martin, most people don't know his name but definitely his persona, these two men are the face of my University to millions of otherwise unaware heathens, I say pay Martin whatever we can afford and slap on the huge buyout clauses suggested.  Its hard to put a price on the good publicity those two men bring in.

Big 12 coaches must be ecstatic that Boyle and Doc aren't dragging down the median salary anymore.

Hard to pin down since they don't have to release to the public. I saw closer to .5 mil, but he also got a new deal after their run last year I believe. In any case, I don't think its up there in the middle.

by using that list, Frank obviously deserves to be somewhere between Ford and Kruger.

Yes, even if Ford is way overpaid (and his is).

I would be good if Frank was at 1.8-1.9 mil.

As with any person in HR, or ADJC in our case, it's their job to retain personnel at the absolute minimum while keeping them content. It's also their job to know what that number is, which includes just enough to scare away other suitors. If that number is what Frank's current pay is, then so be it, no need to pay him more. If KSU needs to bump it up to meet a new number, then so be it. I don't believe that number to be more than $2M by any stretch.

I don't think the point in the current pay Frank discussion is how much we can afford, I think its whether or not people think he's worth paying in the upper 1/3 of Big 12 coaching salaries. I think he is.

I really don't understand how people can think he isn't.

Can't pay him more than Bill

Being told by people close to Jeff Capel... That he says reports of him being on the MU staff are "untrue".

Haith to MU would be less palatable without Capel in tow, imo.

Brad Underwood. Because he recruits the area and has won at the juco ranks.

j rake has been a disaster today when it comes to talk radio.

The sad thing is, I actually recorded the Brando/Frank interview and had the benefit of playing back the tape — and STILL misheard the quote. But I deserve a free pass on the Gottlieb goof, since I didn't actually listen to that. I was going by the context provided in this thread.

Finally, it's done. RT @danwiederer: Confirmed: it is Mark Gottfriend that is the new NC State men's basketball coach.

The carousel ride isn't nearly as fun when they hire non employed head coaches.  Did some research on him in regards to his last gig at bama, is it really that tacky to try to steal a recruit after the original coach dies ?

Really hoping you mean Bill Self.  We should pay Snyder $0 to not coach football anymore, and a healthy wage to be some bullshit university ambassador or something just to keep 'tucks appeased.

it would be hilarious to pay frank more than snyder and then tell snyder no after he asks for more money.

If you do nothing else, make sure you do number four!

Well, if we are going to think of amazingly sweet hypotheticals that won't come true, then I'd like to add that when we tell Snyder no, we tell him that we are saving up for the next football coach.

Best part is that if he was REALLY back to CALM THE WATERS, he'd agree to that.  But.....

Actual reporting from Kellis (and excellent commenting by doom) on his blog http://blogs.kansas.com/kstated/2011/04/05/frank-martin-eligible-for-contract-extension/:

Quote
...that he is eligible for an extension.

The contract, signed in April 2010, lists specific criteria that can trigger the negotiation of a new contract. They include K-State advancing to the Sweet 16, earning a 1 or 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, finishing in a tie for third or better in the Big 12 regular season standings, winning the Big 12 Tournament or Martin winning Big 12 or National Coach of the Year honors before the conclusion of the 2011-12 season.

By finishing 10-6 in conference play this season, and tying with Texas A&M for third, Martin has met that criteria.

According to contract language, Martin and K-State athletic director John Currie are now supposed to, “agree to negotiate in good faith from April 1, 2012 to May 31, 2012 a modification, extension, or revised employment agreement.”

If they fail to reach an agreement during that negotiation period, the amount of Martin’s buyout, which is currently $1,000,000 shall immediately become $500,000.

i'd wait to see who transfers and who is brought in before negotiating in good faith.
