Hearing that Alabama coach Anthony Grant would be popular choice at Miami but school isn't likely to exceed his current salary in SEC-conf.

That list is awful.  Worse than what we'd put together.

Why?  That would be about the equivalent of going with Al Golden.

The odds of them going after an established NCAA coach right now are probably pretty small.  They have to get an AD and football up and running.  Saving money on a basketball program no one cares about is probably a good idea at this point.

Hopefully people start figuring out the quality of the Miami job. Frank would be an absolute grand slam for them, even with the "going home" connection. It would be similar to if Self had went to Oklahoma State. Really.

Someone send this to Frank. Everyone in Miami hates him. EVERYONE!

But Miami will likely have to match the $1.2 million yearly salary the 2010 conference coach of the year currently gets at K-State. With Martin's shady record, it ain't worth it.

That article is great. A press conference wouldn't go by without a high school question being brought up. I'm guessing they would change his name to Frank "One-time Miami Cheater" Martin in every article.

You're such an incredible dumbass, book.

and,
it must really sicken you to hear Frank pour the praise on Underwood for revamping the offense and single handedly saving the season. Said so himself. Pretty good for a scrub coach that contributes nothing. Right?

I'll be honest, Dax.  Your faith in Schulz gives me pause.  Not that I don't love him (I do), I'm just surprised to see the leash you've given him.  Very confidence inspiring.

Well Pan, here is what I know about UPKS:

1.  He's every bit as in to athletics as his predecessor.

2.  From what I hear he wanted/wants the BTF worse than Jon Currie, and is quietly paying a pivitol role in making the BSFS improvements happend.  He wants those projects done badly.

3.  He knows he's the President and that he's NOT the athletic director, nor is he the "team owner", he hired an athletic director to take care of that stuff . . . I think you understand what I'm saying.

Missouri's expected hiring of University of Miami basketball coach Frank Haith has sent shock waves through the Kansas State fan base with concerns that the Miami job may be attractive to K-State coach Frank Martin. The obvious question is simple: Is it?

The quick answer is no, with a source close to the situation pointing out that Martin, despite being a native of Miami, has "no connection" to the University of Miami. It's more complex than that, however.

News of Haith's expected hiring by Missouri began to leak out of the basketball coaching community Sunday afternoon, the source said, and a potential deal was agreed upon by Haith and Missouri director of athletics Mike Alden on Sunday night. The University of Missouri Board of Curators is scheduled to meet Monday night and will likely approve the contract at that time.

If Haith does leave Miami, it will open up an ACC job in Martin's hometown, where he gained coaching experience at three high schools prior to launching his college coaching career as an assistant at Northeastern.

As of early Monday afternoon, the source said no one from the University of Miami had contacted Martin about the possible opening, but the source expected Martin, who just completed his fourth year in Manhattan, to at least listen to what the school would have to say. Not only does Martin's mother live in Miami, but the 45-year-old coach has a 12-year-old son, Brandon, who resides in Miami.

"They haven't talked, but it would be hard (for Martin) not to listen. They (Miami) would have to commit to doing things the right way," the source said.

There's the catch. Miami is considered the weakest of the ACC basketball jobs, and the Hurricanes averaged only 4,500 fans for home games this season. The source indicated that the school would have to make a serious financial commitment to basketball that far exceeds the coach's pay.

Just the salary, however, appears to be an issue for Miami. Haith was in his seventh season there, and his salary of $600,000 was a little more than half the $1.1 million Martin made at K-State this season. Martin and K-State athletics director John Currie agreed upon a new five-year contract near the end of the 2009-10 season that with incentives would average out to $1.5 million a season over the life of the contract.

Miami is not the only major college job currently open. UNLV is seeking a replacement for Lon Kruger, who was just hired by Oklahoma, but the source said Martin has no interest in that position.

A greater concern is the opening at North Carolina State. According to media reports, VCU coach Shaka Smart turned down overtures from N.C. State and the source said that there is talk in the coaching community that some prominent Wolfpack donors want the school to pursue Martin. It is believed the ACC school could pay a salary approaching $3 million a year to the right candidate.

Forgot about his son in Miami. Dammit.

A tidbit of info on Miami's potential support of a winner.

In Leonard Hamilton's last year at Miami (they won the Big East that year by the way), Attendance for their final two home games was 6100, and 7500.  That was when they were playing at the 15000 seat Miami Arena.  Three years later they built the BankUnited Center a facility with a maximum capacity of 8000.  Miami doesn't even support their football teams.

2000     58,430
2001     46,162
2002     69,539
2003     58,135
2004     59,134
2005     45,310
2006     41,908
2007     43,589
2008     46,191*

A university located within the nation's 7th largest metro area whose basketball attendance even in there greatest season falls way below average.

Miami doesn't have fans, and the ones they do have don't go to games.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Franks son (who looks just like CK when CK got to manhattan) is often at games.  one would think frank makes enough coin to see his kid pretty regularly without having to be in the same metro area.

That's what I was thinking. If they can really pay that much, why were they even looking at Shaka Smart, let alone making him their first choice?

The $3M has been the rumored offer for Rick Barnes - apparently, Rick grew up a Pack fan.

The Barnes nonsense has been floating around before they hired Lowe 3 years ago.

They can because they have a lot of money.   The Wolfpack Club, which is a seperate financial entity from the athletic department, but exists only to support the athletic department has a lot of jack.
