What has Archie done that is so impressive. He has been beneficial with an A10 that has suffered from conference realignment making Dayton one of the better job in the conference if not the best. His kenpom rankings aren't great. They are good but not job exceeding.
That's a fair question and I thought about that a little bit when I looked at his resume. His teams did get steadily better at Dayton and he was league champs/co champs the last 2 years. However, the NCAA success has gone down. He had all 5 NCAA wins (including one in the first 4) 3 and 4 years ago including his Elite 8, both years as 11 seeds. Then the last 2 seasons as 7 seeds he lost in the first round, but those were to pretty good teams in Syracuse and Wichita State. If I'm Indiana I'd rather have Mack from Xavier, but maybe they got information that he wasn't interested.
It also feels like Indiana basketball may be going the way of Nebraska football, but its a much different sport and they shouldn't have the same issues that Nebraska football has in maintaining success at an elite level.
