at what point as a fan do you say, it's time to win a tournament game?  is year 6 too early?

There literally isn't a single person in the world who is happy with oscar's NCAA tournament record, literally not a single one. In a world of stupid hottakes, this is the dumbest one.  This is part and parcel with people who type the phrase "our fans are okay with mediocrity." I wish anyone who ever says or types that gets their stupid fingers slammed in a car door.

The rallying cry of "I'm not accepting mediocrity" has definitely caught on lately.

the TCU thing is kind of weird especially if we sweep them in league play and have more wins in conference and in total than them.

it's crazy what happens when you get 6 noncon top 100 wins (TCU) instead of 1 noncon top 100 win (KSU)

Hold on man, their six top 100 wins were against
South Dakota
St. Bonaventure
Belmont
SMU
Nevada
William & Mary

It's also worth noting that the St. Bonaventure and Nevada games weren't scheduled by TCU, one was a tournament and one was a one off classic game they likely got from winning the NIT.

In May and June when these things are scheduled does that really look much differently than
Arizona State
Tulsa
Vanderbilt
UC Irvine
George Washington
Washington State

Now to give TCU credit, I think the bigger issue is that they don't have nearly as many dogs as K-State. K-State played 6 teams with a sub 225 RPI, TCU played 2. oscar absolutely needs to play a better schedule but we don't need to act like TCU ran through a gauntlet. They got lucky teams like South Dakota and William & Mary have decent RPIs.

To be fair, TCU went 6-0 against their slate and KSU went 4-2.

1) MIR is correct with the 6 sub 225 teams we played being hurtful.  The positive thing is that despite our very poor Non-Con, we have been able to win some quality games, especially on the road.  Our non con wasn't great last year, but it was 236. If it was 330, we don't make it last year. But if it was 136, I believe we still are an 11 seed or still among the Last 4 In (all 4 were 11 seeds).

2) 2011, you might recall Colorado getting left out of NCAA despite going 8-8 and beating us 3 times (Meanwhile we were a 5 seed at 10-6).    Colorado was 16-11 overall with a 325 Non-Con SOS (Ours was 34 that year).  And they only had 2 other Top 100 wins. They had more losses to sub 101 teams (2) than road wins vs top 100 (1) that year.  Lack of good wins + horrible schedule is a bad formula, especially when it's a 16-11,8-8 team

mocat, I'm not against using Top 100/50 wins as something to look at, but do you not believe in the tier game system that the NCAA has actually stated they are using to replace that?

yep, again, i'm not commenting on how the committee uses the RPI. my initial foray into this mess was based on a tweet that ignorantly criticized the RPI system itself (which is much different than criticizing how a committee does or does not use the system).

i'm just continuing to emphasize that a team's RPI ranking has little to do with what goes on in the >200 portion of its schedule.

fwiw i think the tier system you mentioned is a great way to apply the RPI

I get that.

I just see that K-State is 8-7 vs Tier 1 & 2 and 6-3 on the road. TCU is 6-9/2-6. We've played the same number of quality games, won more, and are better on the road.

oh, i see what you are saying now. i generally just look at the overall record and 20+wins in the big 12 should get it done regardless of noncon

I have no clue why Palm has a job. He's never that accurate.

He has Houston seeded higher than Bama. Bama has 7/2 on the Q1/Q2 wins. They have a good NonCon SOS (23). Houston is 5/1 on the good wins and has a 271 NonCon SOS.

Bama 8-5 in 3rd rated Conference
Houston 10-3 in 7th rated Conference

Few others I disagree with, but the Bama/Houston one made me LOL.

Outside of losing the rest of our games is there any prayer of us missing the tourney?

probably would have to go 1-5 or worse in our last 5 plus big 12 tourney to not make the tourney. i think 2-3 last 5 reg season gets us in.
